Did Sweet ever open up again after it was closed several week ago for a refurb? Closed up last week when I walked past during the daytime , no furniture in and no workmen in sight .

They got out pretty quickly i hear...

.... like a 'fox on the run ' ;)

Depends which refurb, the Christmas one it did open up again, but it did not open after the sign that went up a couple months ago. But a second was not planned it is the typical do a runner signage.

It has been taken over and will be something else and workman were in there removing the decor week before last.

However, that has been halted due to a dispute as sweet owe the council a number of months rent apparently

That explains what looks like a down tools of the workmen , with black bags which were there on the floor last week still there.

Noticed today that Edinburgh Woollen Mill had a sign saying closing down, then another one across it saying something like ' depending on negotiations with the leaseholder'

Looking rather dire at the top end of town today. I avoided the river paths to feel safer, but didn't feel safe walking up an almost deserted Chapel Street (?) Where Millets was/is....even google maps doesn't want to load it for me to check the name of the street...

Is Oatcakes and Milkshakes still open? There was an 'open' sign on the door this afternoon. but no sign of life in the place.

That's Stafford Street.

Chapel Street is the one from the small island outside Oatcakes & Milkshakes to the Noah's Ark, Surgery, Palmer's, Pie and Ale House, Redrum...
