Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

That's Stafford Street.

Chapel Street is the one from the small island outside Oatcakes & Milkshakes to the Noah's Ark, Surgery, Palmer's, Pie and Ale House, Redrum...
Aaah thanks , was trying to see signs on walls to see which street is was (to take my mind off being the only one down there except for a bloke walking in front ... getting a bit nervy walking around in the daytime lately, never used to bother me walking home miles on my own in the early hours years ago! ) Felt like a ghost town in parts yesterday up that end of town.

The Fryer on Foregate Street seems to have closed down, being gutted internally atm. Don't think that place ever really recovered after the business before the rebranding was rated a zero after a rat infestation, and being closed by environmental health , guess there's a small chance it might be having a refurb though.

I have only been along the humpy road three times, in each direction, since B&Q vacated the area, whenever that was, and none of the three visits were of my own volition.

I don't remember this being a pub, but I remember the pub selling off the fixtures outside...would have been 2003/2004.
When you go inside The Fryer it looks like it was last refurbed in 1983 :?:

Think that was where my brother had his wedding reception upstairs when it was a pub (either that or it was one further on, up the Stone Rd....my brain isn't working today ...) That would be late 1981 .

Somerfield. They took over the International supermarket chain, which in turn took over Tates. I think.

That's possible - Morrisons I would have remembered I think. I know the Kwik Saves I knew in South Wales all turned into Co-Ops.

Unsure if that was national thing though.

Oddly I can't find 'old' streetviews either. I'm sure it must have been taken more than once.

It's not shorties you're thinking of is it ? That seems to have gates that open on the front which would indicate there were deliveries coming in quite regularly , always thought it's a bit weird how those street barriers are actually a locked gate.

More of a stores that have previously closed question

This photo caption suggests that the Wildwood Kwik Save / Co-Op was briefly a Morrisons.

I don't recall that, mind you I wasn't there that often.

Somerfield
Coop

I worked in the ( independent) bakery when it changed over from kwiksave to somerfield. Bosses came round saying how much of an asett it was to the store, then closed it down.

Enjoying a drop of red.
I have memories of Kwik Save. Non of them pleasant due to the staff that worked there.

Although Cusworths greengrocers were always excellent thanks to good produce and the lovely Howard and Ann.

I worked for Kwik Save in Walton,Stone. Only managed a week, and that's cos I couldn't remember the price of every item in the store. Wages were crap, staff morale was rock bottom.
Incidently, Kwik Save took over the old Cee n Cee chain of supermarkets too.

There's a couple of the original Kwiksave staff still working there in the Co-op. Still not cheered up much ..
