What's for dinner/tea?

It being Wednesday, I wandered to the shop, largely to stay in sequence, although I didn't want much, really.

I considered another pair of the excellent beef pies, but I still have one left, so I decided to forego it this week. Then I noticed that they do another identical looking pie, though with a different filling, so I decided to partake of them.

If nothing else, I am intrigued by the description of the main ingredients - "Wild Chicken & Mushroom".

I will report when one has been properly investigated.

The wild is in the wrong place surely?

Not necessarily

Food wise, tonight is a good night.

Nothing to think about, nothing to prepare, nothing to cook.

Just last night’s leftover fish pie, because I cooked a massive 4 person one .... reheated IN MY MICROWAVE.

Bliss, I’m just off to put a face pack on and have a bath, candles are already lit. Husband is watching the football.
We shall reconvene at half time.

I still can't quite take in, going on how good a cook you are, the use of the microwave..... I just don't ever think to use it for its propper use.... At the moment mines unplugged, and hidden inside are some frozen chocolate éclairs, defrosting in their own time, hopefully in time for pudding.....

Thank you but I don’t think that I’m a particularly good cook, I only ever really cook simple food and nothing too adventurous.
I’m amazed at the wonderful concoctions that other people on here come up with (you and your husband included in that).

What I am though is an organised cook. I just want to make life easy for myself. And I hate waste, never throw any food away whether it’s cooked or uncooked.
So I’ll cook in batches and freeze. For example if I’ve got a big bag of potatoes and I’m making mash, I’ll peel the whole bag full, cook and mash the lot then freeze it in containers. Microwaved up with a bit more butter and milk and bobs your uncle.
Same with rice....make treble the amount and freeze it. It microwaves and then tastes as perfectly as fresh.

Any left over veg gets made into soups then frozen/microwaved.

I honestly don’t know how anyone can manage without one.

Just out of curiosity, how do you cook frozen peas?
How do you reheat leftovers? Or do you cook exactly the right amount of food every time?
I’m a bit nosy/genuinely interested in how other people do things.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Macaroni cheese* tonight, with the cheese sauce as thick as I can reasonably get it. Bit of salad to go with it.

*Not Mac'n'cheese as seems to be the horrendous fashion of calling it nowadays.

I love that, I make a version that if I’ve got any cauliflower cheese left. Stick some pasta in and it’s a macaroni cheese cauliflower fusion type of thing.
Odd thing is, husband likes pasta dishes and he likes cauliflower cheese but won’t eat macaroni cheese.

Oooh you are a great cook, you have lots of things we would never think of!

Frozen peas in a pan of water on the hob, leftovers are a thing of mystery as we all eat too much - I was brought up believing I had to eat everything on my plate and it was rude not to, so wouldn't dare leave anything, but on occasion leftover Sunday veg is bubble & squeek in a frying pan or oven, even my tin of tomato soup went on the hob the other day as I prefer the taste and it seems to stay hotter for longer. All the things I bulk make, mashed potato, carrot & sweede mash, red cabbage etc I freeze in tin trays with the cardboard lids on, so they go in the oven.

The child uses the microwave to make mug cakes, noodles, soup etc... Far more than me, I do use it for ping rice, and scrambled egg if there's no rings on the hob left (although scrambled eggs are much better on the hob). Mostly I just hide things in it!

The carer LOVES Maceroni cheese..... he says he's jealous of @proactive 's tea! :xd::xd::xd:

I’ve not attempted a risotto for a long time, I think my last one was a stodgy mess but tonight I tried again

Another recipe added to the shopping basket and it was delish! An extra handful of Kale and a courgette that needed using, swapped the ham out for the Vivera veggie bacon and it was a hit, I’ve never seen the kids clear a plate so quickly.

Peas on the hob, leftovers re-heated in the oven!

It helps that the husband is a human bin - he will eat anything - cold and old so nothing gets wasted!

You can do peas and sweetcorn in the microwave, we used do it all the time when I worked in the kitchen at our place.
I'm like @Carole , sit here at times in wonder at some of the meals you all put together. I've never been adventurous when it comes to food, I suppose it's sumat do with Mum never moving away from tried and trusted stuff/ never having the money to do it either. Then I had such fussy eaters for kids, I often used do 5 different meals, 4 were for them and the 5th for me and the ex.
I did do my first Macaroni cheese with chicken last week, and then my 2nd this week complete with bits of bacon thrown in. I had never in my entire life made a white sauce till then. At work we used packet Bechamel and at home, no-one would touch it.
