I still find it strange how tastes change as you get older, as a child I spent a lot of time at my nans, we ate liver, kidneys, faggots, tripe, skirt of beef, trotters, brains, beef cheeks, mutton, heart, haslet and tongue and I thought nothing of it. We scooped mould off jam & yogurt, pared rind & mould of cheese, and that's how it was....
Untill I was about 8yrs old and was sent to the butchers across the Rd to buy some sliced tongue. I thought 'Tongue' was just a name, like haslet, and had no idea it was a real tongue till the butcher slapped it in the slicer & proceeded to cut it up.
That did it for me & I questioned everybit of meat I ever ate from then on, not realising what they really were.
The only thing I still eat is Faggots and mutton, when available. How things change.
