I was almost stopped by a red light tonight. Bring back the cones!! I thought there would be a left turn green light into Browning Street with these new lights and new left hand turn lane but alas, there is not. Seems like a missed opportunity.

I drove down there this morning for the first time in a while (I've managed to avoid most of that area during the roadworks). I turned left into Browning Street & was actually impressed with what I could see along the Stone Road. As you say though, it's a missed opportunity not putting a filter into Browning Street. Maybe they'll dig the road up in a couple of months to put the sensors etc in.

Corporation Street has just reopened if anyone needs to come this way. Accident was at the corner of Crooked bridge road, Air ambulance landed in the school playground opposite my house. Hope everyone involved is going to be ok

You missed the ambulances and 2nd air ambulance in the fields behind you towards the prison. And traffic stopped in all directions around that cross road. Must of been a bad one.

Do they even need sensors? Is it not just a case of lighting up the left filter when the Browning Street exit lights are green?

Enjoying a drop of red.

Are you being deliberately obtuse?

Fitting sensors would create an opportunity for disruption. The very raison d'être of Highways.

I thought's thats why they'd put a split puffin crossing in, so traffic could still turn left when cars are exiting Browning Street? Obviously not... Other places where a green arrow would be desirable is turning left into Tesco and turning right at the junction outside Stafford Leisure Centre. But, they don't think of these things in Stafford.

In fact, I can't see any advantage or any way they have improved the Browning Street junction by putting an island in the middle of the road in Browning Street and the A34 for pedestrians to cross or have a picnic there. Without a left green turn signal, the flow of traffic has not really changed and the work has been pointless.

There are a lot of examples, e.g., turning left into Sandon Road off Beaconside - and many others - where traffic is held for no reason, where other vehicle and pedestrian traffic would not be compromised in any way by the operation of a filter, and when the necessary lights are actually there.

Then how come this repeatedly happens in Stafford??
