From fb

"I see the lord nelson pub on east gate street is being renovated. and will reopen in the next few months. Live music. spoke with the new landlord Kevin who as a 20 year lease. I also have been told that the original building and site goes back to the 1600."

Lord Nelson a slow process, not suprising given the state it was in. Seems they acquired it at the tail end of last year. West Midlands Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning Co were hard at work there in January.

Carpet cleaning? Jesus.

I'm already put off

Chuck out the Chintz

Is live music making a comeback?

I note the Floodgate does gigs, the Bird has a folk club and Skaters has live music on a Saturday night

Maplin is now down to at least 40% off everything.

Of course, most stuff isn’t actually 40% off. I’m looking at GU10 Phillips Hue bulbs and a twin pack is still £35. Next door at Argos it’s £44... that’s not 40%. The MSRP sure as hell isnt £60

A shop called Poundland has built in obsolescence. I think the real worry is big stores like M&S, which seems to have as many staff as customers at some times. Can a shop that expensive to run make a profit in Stafford?

Too many of that type of shop about, Poundworld,Poundland, 99p shop
Low margins, high overheads- its a very risky strategy, it needs a lot of footfall to keep the wheels on.
They have also bound themselves to a pricing strategy which means inflation constantly squeezes their margins - and their only viable response is to pressure suppliers and landlords - and you can only do that so much....
