A new Rock/Alternative Night in the making?

Hi guys and gals, thinking of instigating a mid monthly Rock/Alternative night in Stafford.

It would be a Friday night, I know Midlands Metal heads are keen to help out where possible, just gauging interest really. Love me abit of Rock every now and then and know of The Tap & Spile rock night first Saturday of the Month, then the good old Inked last Friday of every month at Couture, and the Thursday night Rock nights at the Vidal Lounge, but obviously this is on a school night ;)

Let me know what you think y'all! :D

Come on then guys, good idea or bad? :D hehe
Give everyone a chance! You only posted an hour or so ago, and chances are people are still at work or on their way home. Also, the nature of Internet forums means you might not get responses for a couple of days. :)

I'd definitely be interested and can think of a fair few people that would be too.

The problem these themed nights seem to have is that the folk putting them on believe the response to the first one is going to be the same for the following nights, they then don't bother putting in the promotional effort for the following nights.. The first night is awesome, the second is decent and then it just sort of fizzles and everyone goes back to their standard routine.

If you can avoid that and keep the numbers up I'd imagine it'd become a regular haunt for a fair few people I know - It's more about the crowd and atmosphere mostly, if it wasn't I'd just listen to music at home relaxing on the sofa throwin' up horns every now and then

I think live bands would be better than a DJ too, we've got plenty of laptop DJ nights in Stafford already.. but maybe that's just my preference :)

Sounds good.

The only thing I'd say is that events I have been to have tended to be very niche and play a lot of metal and not a lot else. I mean, I know you're midlands metal heads and all, and maybe I'm getting old, but sometimes I'd like to listen to some songs I know and can sing along to. Like faith no more and nirvana and 90s ska the like. You know, stuff 20 years old.
Same goes for live music, it doesnt have to be stuff I know or old, but i'd like to be able to hear the words occasionally!

Delighted to see something not on a school night too. I am aware of the one at Vidal but never go due to work, Tap is a bit out of the way and I wasn't even aware that Couture still tried. Last thing one I heard about was Spunge.

I'm inpatient, what can I say? :) Haha. I'm just excited and enthusiastic to get a couple of nights going for people that maybe up for something new. There's plenty of nights in Stafford that don't tend to push the "right buttons" for a majority of people that no longer venture into town.

I know bunches of people that moan and grumble about not having anywhere to go, or there being no good nights in Stafford, i'm totally up for changing
that or at least giving it a go. There used to be nights on all the time, always something to look forward to, and now........nothing.

I put my first bass insanity night on towards the end of last year, initially got met with loads of people saying "good luck, that will never work in Stafford". After a roaring success i'm trying it out again on the 10th of March, i'm hoping for the same success this time around.

I love rock music and so do stacks of people I know, there just isn't really a night that's on for a rock crowd. The surgery used to have a rock night every Tuesday and occasional Friday, and it was a success bands or not. Obviously having bands will draw new crowds, but also comes the problems of live set up, which I know lots about, being in bands for years.

If people prefer to sit at home and drink beer whilst listening to acdc, then no worries, but I think there's a bunch out there that wanna rock the F##k out! :) hopefully i'm right, well, I can but try at least :)

ATJ......if there was no Faith No More on my Mum would kick my ass!! :) Haha. That's totally what I mean, where in Stafford town can you go for a beer and listen to Faith No More? This is the kinda thing I want to get going on my night. I'm from the old school when it comes to rock, zz top, Hendrix, Led Zepp, but i'm totally into the new stuff to, along with a dose of metal to keep the hair wind millers happy! :)

What kind of artists would people like to hear on this night? Give me names and set lists can be made up :)

Through no fault of mine in the 70's I ended up at a club and Sweet were playing. For some reason they seemed not to play the usual commercial dross but more heavier rock. I guess this was because it was not a teeny bopper audience. I checked with my mate it was Sweet, after the event because the week before I had been to see the Pink Fairies I did not want to be accused of imagining things.

What would be really cool is something where people can bring their own stuff - a bit like a jukebox but we provide the music - say, 3 track blocks. I think the idea is it works off iPods or similar but I'm old skool and only have CDs*... =/

* Vinyl is almost before my time, and tapes have since become obsolete (and were only useful for recording stuff off the radio anyway).

This thread is from February 2013, so don't get your hopes up, people! For some reason, it was bumped with this post:

I wonder if the new people will have the rock bands

Which "new people"? Which "rock bands"? I suspect this should be a new thread, with more details. ;)
