Bon Marche is closing down. Hardly surprising as its owned by Peacocks who will also be gone soon.
To be honest I can't say I will miss Bon marche - I once said to my daughters - 'Please shoot me if I EVER buy anything from there!'
So thats 2 then as peacocks are up the queens retail park. I never shop in bon marchy but its a bit of a bummer for the people losing their jobs!
Peacocks are still trading in administration according to a notice in the Wildwood Co-op shop.

i asked about a stall in the guidhall by my shop, just over valentines, and they wanted so much money for it!! also had stupid stipulations about how the table should look etc, when i didnt call them back they offered it half price knowing itd b empty otherwise. but its too late for me to arrange staffing now so im gonna stick to my shop and no stall. it looks awful when u walk into the guidhall and the 2 shops that you see first are empty! hopefully they'll be filled pretty soon

btw ive just read back a few pages and i agree about out of town retail parks - they arent going to help the town centre. i would always go to costa on retail park rather than town to meet a mate, as its free parking and the parking is right outside the place. tbh if i could afford it id move out of town as that retail park is a lot busier on a saturday than stafford town centre. judging by whats happening in usa tho, the town will get worse and worse until landlords drop the rent dead low, and hopefully then we'll see more independantly owned shops popping up, and leave the out of town units to the big boys. theres no way i could afford a high street shop with the rents the way they are. i dont want to sound like my dad, but i think it would help if the bus station dropped people off in the square, and i would love to see more housing in town above the shops rather than derelict offices.
when i went to switzerland recently to look at bakeries there, they refused to have offices above the shops in this one town i went to, and it was lovely in the morning seeing people walking their dogs and hanging up washing. they walk over to the bakery for fresh bread every morning, so picturesque. might move to switzerland thinking about it!! almost did once but then met mr soden so stayed about ;)

The town is really shocking. The shops seem to be closing in two,s now. I really cant understand why landlords and council dont start conversing to do something!

I hear switzerland is lovely place to live, bit too cold for me tho lol, i nearly went to live in canada with my sister, but ended up meeting someone and got married, its all ended now - The things we do for men eh! haha

A positive example.
Hmm perhaps we should print out hundreds of copies and hit the landlords of stafford lol - could leave a few on the reception of the council too

I subscribe to a shop property newsletter that gives me details of new shops as and when they are available as I am always looking for a property in Stafford. I would much rather be based in Stafford than Eccleshall.

Can you believe that they want £50K for the soon to be old Carphone Warehouse in the Guildhall as well as nearly 25K in business rates!

My place in Eccleshall is roughly the same overall size and costs 4K with no business rates....I'm afraid it is a no brainer for me!

Always looking though so if anyone hears of anything please let me know!

Having looked at every shop going in Stafford before deciding to move back to online selling only I know where you are coming from - the cheapest shop we found in the town centre was 11k - it's now the fishy foot place down the side of starbucks. Online is the way to go though - we sell roughly 6 times more online than we ever did in the shop :)

Hi Jade,

We do "bricks and clicks" and our web business is steadily increasing. You should have seen the surge in orders on Saturday just cos of a bit of snow! Took more online that day than I did in store!

Very tempted by going online only too...would save a fortune on utilities etc.

I'd highly recommend it - our overheads are a fifth of what they were in the shop and we have already in the space of 5 weeks outgrown our office - next step - a small warehouse.

Ooooh - maybe we could share one! :)
That's not a bad idea - we still have almost 5 months left on our contract at the office though but an idea for when the contract is up :)

I see that the Chinese herbalist in the basement of the High House has gone, and customers are being referred to Mill Street.
