The butcher at greyfriers has closed down due to the crime in the area!
Was that the last butcher of stafford lol - does this mean that your grandkids will grow up thinking that chicken comes freshly prepacked and pre weighed out - having travelled in a lorry along with the butter!
lol

I think there's still a butchers on Highfields, Weeping Cross, Sandon road and Littleworth. It's such a shame but as said in lots of threads the Supermarkets are putting the independants out of business - most people are too busy to shop around though and its so convenient to buy all your food etc in one place. also the tent repairer on Sandon road has closed now I think - can't say as I'm surprised about that one though!

And Bridle Road.
Yes, I use the butchers on Bridle Road. It's nice being able to ask for a certain number of sausages, slices of bacon etc and they will prepare joints of meat and chicken portions exactly to your requirements (And the counter is always so well laid out with so many tempting things that I end up buying a lot more than I originally went in for!)

But it does most times tend to be a bit more expensive than the local supermarket and times when there are only so many pennies in my purse I have opted for the cheaper deals in the local Co-op.

You could be forgiven for ignoring this recommendation from a vegetarian but my husband will only eat meat from here: http://www.tedsbeef.co.uk/ This is a butchers' shop based in a portacabin on a farm near Sherrifhales. Ted raises his own animals and I know that he keeps them extremely well. We have had (live!) piglets from him - he rears rare breeds. According to my husband, meat from Teds is a million miles away from anything he can buy in supermarkets or shops. His children could taste the difference from about 10-years' old.
Ted's shop is only open at weekends, I think. Possibly Fridays too. At one stage I remember seeing adverts in the Newsletter indicating he was offering delivery to Stafford but that was a good while ago. I don't know if that is still the case. You get to his portacabin at the end of a long, rough farm track and frequently find a queue of people snaking out of the cabin and towards the barns. If you have a blue car, beware of the peacock.

If you would like to support Local businesses, I can recommend my husband’s butchers….

Beez Family Butchers, Greyfriars, Stafford ……… Quality, Fresh Meat, Vegetables and Groceries……….Competitive Prices……… Monthly Special Deals

For e.g. Fresh Chickens £3.20 kg … £3.40kg in Morrison’s, Milk 2ltr only £1.09 over £1.20 in some supermarkets, Hovis Bread 99p over £1.15 in some supermarkets

( Contrary to the Express and Star story they decided to write that we were unaware last night, the shop is well and truly open and will continue to be so …… if anyone asks we are not being forced out by mindless criminals !)

I have to say it does look very open when I pass it on my way to work every day.

So why did the guy quote in the E&S saying hes closing because his wife cannot stand it anymore because of the burglarys!! perhaps its just a tactic to get more custom - unless the E&S just thought they would make a story up about a butchers in stafford and pretend to quote the guy!!
Seems to be a bit of a pattern lately in stafford - im closing, im not, im opening im closed - bit errm confusing!

Cheap prices. What did the express and star say? I missed that? It's so hard these days trying to compare prices to supermarkets and big chains, can't belive how much the town has changed over the last few years, to many empty shops

YES the Express and Star did make it up.. we knew nothing about it and did not say we are closing - the previous week they rang to tell us that the burglar was in court and she had covered the story and did we want to say anything, we said no not really only that we were disappointed with criminals. On last weeks story, we are trying to get an apology off them as we did not know anything about it, she investigated all that herself, we are NOT being forced to close, I did no way say I cant stand it anymore. We have only had One burglary and the other incidents were just smashed windows which can happen to any businesses through mindless yobs. The price is NOT dropped due to crime, only dropped as the business world of buying and selling is not in a very good state due to the economy at present. It has been on market for a couple of years as we want to retire and that is the ONLY reason, not that this was of any business to of the whole of Stafford before she wrote it. In the mean time we will continue to give excellent service to our customers new and old alike, everyone welcome, IF and when we do sell as a going concern then our customers will be told but we have every intention of staying open. Please pass this to all, as all independant small businesses need support from locals to help you to retain your high street/small shops. Just shows you cant believe all you read in the papers eh !!

GREENGATE DELI
WILL CEASE TRADING ON
SATURDAY 10TH MARCH AT 4.00 PM

Unfortunately we are not immune from the pressures of the current economic situation that faces the wider economy and The Lewis Partnership like any other business is suffering the downturn in consumer spending. Therefore it is with great regret that we have come to this decision.

Outside Catering will still continue to operate from The Moat House, Acton Trussell and will be rebranded as Lewis Partnership Catering.

May we take this opportunity to thank you for your custom and support over the past 4 years.

I am very sorry to hear this news Chris. I know how much the guys at Stafford loved going to the deli. Wishing you and your business great success in your other ventures.
