Any decent chat rooms?

i used to check out the chat rooms on faceparty when i was bored on t'internet, but apparently they are now closed.. are there any decent chat rooms left on teh intarweb??

I don't tend to use chatrooms... I did go on IRC for a little while due to one of my exes but I don't talk to him anymore, so don't use it anymore.

funnily enough, i've been playing around with FluxBB (the sort of successor to PunBB which this forum runs on), playing about with trying to integrate a chatroom into it. (along with trying to get the image hosting more integrated - which is *nearly* sorted)
its a piece of cake to just add an extra page with a chatroom on it, but i'm stumped on how to pass usernames through and all that. Maybe the almighty Admin has an idea?

I have set up this THE FORUM CHAT ROOM version 0.1! It is the same as the one on Coobeastie's page. It is nice and simple, just log in with your Forum username. Let's try it out and if it works perhaps the Almighty Admin can incorporate it into the Forum (copy and paste html - easy - even I could do that!!!)

I spent a long time looking at various chat room options, and decided against it for a number of reasons, the main one being I couldn't guarantee the security of The Forum using existing options.

I will have another look at it though, seeing as there is demand for it

Just to clarify, this is nothing to do with Stafford Forum, so I/we have no control over what goes on there. Many thanks to Sofa for setting it up, and I hope you all get use out of it, but bear in mind that it is a wholly separate entity to this place and so will not be controlled or moderated in any way!

Well, that what I seem to be doing most of the time...

I'm toying with the idea of coding up a proper chat room thing from scratch. That way I can try to include features that people want, and ignore the rubbish the nobody gives a toss about.

But i'm not a programmer anymore, and I use the "Garden Shed"* methodology of design, so it might take a while.


*Beloved of failed inventors everywhere - keep boshing away until something works, then add loads of dangerous bits. Then take bits away until it stops catching (metaphorical) fire. It helps if you have a hat. And a shed.
