Is the Thai restaurant good then? I haven't been in 10+ years. It was a bit bland and the reason I like Thai food more than Chinese is they should do curry and some really hot dishes. I know the one in NUL does a coconut chilli beef dish that will destroy your insides and makes you drip with sweat. You'll regret it the next day, but it tastes fantastic.
we go to the thai and like it..i love the fact that they are thai people and the atmosphere is warm...unlike the chinese near the island that we went to recently and never to return...the place was empty...the menu was very limited and the food bland...served by very inexperienced british girls so all in all nothing to save the experience.

Do you mean Essence of the Orient? I heard a rumour they had another visit from immigration, not sure how true it is.

The Apollo is a gold mine, Vue know this. It is case of whether they move, refit or expand it within that entire complex.
The cinema in Stafford most the used leisure activity at just under 50% with the megabowl just behind, this is as a district and beyond. Under recent independent consultation/ survey it was indentified that the Apollo is successful enough for a minimum 4 screen cinema, therefore enhancing their options, keeping more successful films on screen for longer and expanding the catchment further.

Will be interesting what happens next.

Wasn't the original plan for a new cinema at riverside/tesco, along with lots of cafes and a shed load of shoebox apartments?

Good news for Stafford IMO, the Apollo is very poor.

It seems the big players in the industry are on a buying spree. Reel Cinemas, who were the largest independent cinema chain, have been bought by Odeon Cinemas.

I presume all Apollos have been purchased?

Tip: when it says your post has 'timed out' - don't believe it.

I presume all Apollos have been purchased?

I believe so, yes. In fact i'm convinced somebody posted a link to the cinemas that were included in the purchase, but it was either
a) not in this particular thread -
b) in a different thread -
c) i imagined it.

It is possible that i did some extra curricula spadework that i imagined somebody else had done, but i definitely saw a list of all the cinemas that had been swallowed by Vue and it was a comprehensive list of Apollo cinemas. I appear to be waffling a bit now, so given that i am, would it be unreasonable to propose the plural of cinema be cinemi?

Vue Entertainment acquires rival UK circuit Apollo

May 15, 2012

Vue, one of the top three cinema chains in the UK, has acquired rival circuit Apollo Cinemas in a deal reportedly valued at £20m. The deal is the first larger scale deal driven by one of the top three circuits for some time, but follows a long history of ownership switching and consolidation in UK cinema exhibition. Deal is fairly significant given that Apollo is the sixth largest chain in the UK.
As a result, deal would provide Vue with a further 14 cinemas and 83 screens to add to its UK portfolio for a new total of around 742 screens, which would put it much closer to second-ranked Cineworld with 784 screens. Vue currently has an estimated 68 sites with 659 screens in the UK alone. Odeon, currently owned by Terra Firma, is the largest UK circuit with 876 screens.

I've said before, I like the Apollo - I like the fact that it's in town, we can walk to it, the screen have been upgraded etc etc.

The only real reason I go to other cinemas is because someone has a stronger opinion then me on a specific cinema, and they're driving, or the Apollo is only showing things in 3D, which my brain / eyes can't process and it gives me a splitting headache...

I hope the Apollo - as in the way of Stafford things it will still be known as, forever more - remains, gets a bit of a make over and bring all the benefits of Vue cinemas - it would be sad for Stafford not to have a cinema..

hat reminds me, I still have free apollo cinema passes I won at StaffordFM and never had delivered...

The Royal Bangkok is excellent. It's a shame that they can't expand as well. The Art of Siam in Newcastle is also well worth a visit. We usually go to the Vue cinema there. Hopefully this takeover will add another dimension to entertainment in Stafford.

Although last time when a new cinema was rumoured to be built on the old Riverside / Tesco site, wasn't The old Apollo meant to be turned into a Walkabout bar?

I think the Royal Bangkok is better then the Art of Siam - even if that has prettier tables.

The Apollo on Regents Street in London is excellent. I was amazed when I went there as it's not comparable in the slightest.
