Apollo Cinema takeover

The Stafford Beast

Myself and Mrs Stafford Beast have a free ticket for the Apollo as part of an Esso promo. Anyone know if it'll be valid when (if?) Vue takes over, or should we plan to go cinema immanently?

Apollo Stafford under threat??

Anyone else think something is afoot here?

If you go on to the Apollo cinema website, the only cinema listed now is Stafford, the rest have all been shifted over to the VUE site.

Dis VUE not want the Stafford Apollo? If so, surely the site must now be doomed ??

According to some inside information, it won't shut. It may continue as an Apollo, and possibly eventually become branded as a Vue - subject to local competition. In some areas they have had to dispose of some, due to local monopoly considerations.

We'll see what actually happens..

Maybe village cinemas are the future

Whilst true, these folk would have to employ someone to talk irritatingly through the film and throw popcorn at their heads - it could even be a two-man job to truly replicate the cinema going experience.

Would it be worth the extra expense?

The Apollo cinema in Stafford has been sold to Curzon Cinemas, a small group of cinemas, mainly in the capital, who seem to have had soem involvement with HMV ??

"Curzon Cinemas is a leading arthouse cinema chain with six venues across the capital and one cinema in Knutsford, East Cheshire. "

I hope this doesn't mark the end of mainstream films being shown there :/

isn't there supposed to be a multiplex cinema built on the old Tesco site subject to planning showing non mainstream films might be the only way for it to keep going

Some of those look quite interesting actually, certainly better than mainstream rubbish like A Good Day To Die Hard.

Whether a cinema, showing such films, could be a commercial success in Stafford is another matter.
Indeed. The Paul Raymond one could be interesting..

I have requested info from my insider in the cinema industry - investigations are on-going.

A bit moot if the supposed multiplex is no longer forthcoming though, what?

But is it? Or not? Or what?

For what it is no longer worth, this is pretty much exactly what i would have done with the Picture House had i been here at the right time and in the right place, both physically and mentally, when its future was in the balance. Which i pretty much would have been - at least mentally, physically i was far far away. However 'tastefully' Weatherspoons has adopted and adapted it, i consider it an act of cultural vandalism that no attempt was made to keep it running as a movie theatre.

I often think of it with a sense of lost opportunity, and it is one of my deepest regrets. Personally i think it could have been commercially successful - but only for one with limited ambitions and lowly needs. I am such a one.

I console myself with the thought that i would almost certainly have cocked it up somehow. :)

I think it's a great idea, it's in a good location and will hopefuly bring people to the town.

Now we could just do with leveling tenpin and turning it into a cine-bowl-ice rink like in Uttoxeter.

Problem solved!

wouldn't mind watching the new star trek film online, so how would I go about that then ?.
having come from a little village I wasn't aware you could watch mainstream releases online.

I have no idea how undodgy this might be - ( Link removed ) - it suggested that I should download a missing plug-in and I gave up at that point...
