Apres

Goldilox

How do I edit this?
The was a large van belonging to a kitchen equipment supplier parked outside when I walked into work at about 6am yesterday, so it may be that there is work going on behind the steel panels after all.

Well Wetherspoons is to close in a few weeks for a 'refurb' and the Apres site is far too small for a Lloyds bar so maybe the two are swapping sites?

That will be interesting. Anyone know just how much of a refurb they will be allowed to do to the building. I won't go as far as saying it's a listed building (it might be?) but it does still retain character from it's old days. Surely they couldn't rip all this out?

This is as much as I know, and the details are as up to date as possible. The Apres site IS going to be a Lloyds derived bar.....Wetherspoons group are attempting to move away from the drunkard stigma that it has gained over the years.

The idea is that the new bar will be more of an eating establishment under the proposed name of The Butchers Bell...Far better than the previous proposed name of "Milan Bar".

The kitchens are being totally gutted and fitted out with extensive work being made to the cellar. The lift is frakked and will be replaced for the cellar too. There is the possibility it may revert back to the upstairs kitchen, back like it was Yates. Plans were suggested to retain the open plan pizza area, but I'm not sure if they are being kept?

As for the Picture House, they are supposedly getting a £100k referb after the Apres site has been completed. That is due for around mid Jan, which runs along the 10 week referb plan.

If I hear anymore I'll keep you updated

So all the drunks from spoons immediately move to the new place? Unless they up their prices I can't see any other outcome?

Not really, no point rushing it, and facing the possibility of having untrained staff, or un familiar staff dealing with way too many people - you want it to be an established place by next Christmas, not somewhere no one goes too because it was rubbish last Christmas (similiarily I was dissapointed that the Ye Olde Rose and Crown wasn't as well staffed as it could have been on Saturday, as if they hadn't thought that being one of the closest pubs to an exit of the square would make them busy)

I wouldn't exactly say they rushed it. I can't remember having ever seen a sign of life that work was actually taking place. :)
