Are all toilet seats standard? Help fitting a new one, please...

i want to replace the toilet seat in my main bathroom, but it seems decidedly non-standard..

this is the exact toilet that i have:

Toilet - Ideal Standard Concept.jpg (click for big)

the seat isn't what i would consider a "normal" shape - it is squared at the back, and rounded at the front.. presumably this means a normal loo seat won't fit?

that being the case, can someone point me in the direction of a cheap, easy to fit replacement please? getting an official one from here is £75 - and that's before you add VAT on top!!

would this one from argos fit? http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8333267.htm

it is described as "square back", which sounds promising - although it looks a bit cuffy, so if there are other options i'd love to hear them!

thanks :)

The in-laws had a funny shaped toilet and seat similar to this by the sound of things. It broke a month after they got it and they never took it back to complain. They then lived with a broken toilet seat for the next 3 years until they sold the house.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Try Plumbits in town. If they can't get one themselves, I'll bet they know who can.

Take a photo of the seat in with you on your phone.

As far as I am aware no - you have your standard 'normal' shaped loo seat and then they can be slightly adjusted via the fixings.

But often square seats or slightly funny shaped ones can only be purchased via the manufacturer at an extortionate cost!

I personally detest square loos - they make me cringe (and I refuse to sit on them!) and find it hilarious that you can't buy them in shops...

Don't do it people! Its just not right!

For £20 from Argos its worth a try plus if it's wrong you can take it back
Fitting is easy they normally come with a device to tighten up the fixings these days its only a wing nut usually

Ive just looked in Screwfix but cant see one in the book

Price for your seat if you did want it to suit the pan would be £75.47 + VAT (£90.56inc), this is a soft close. Would be on a lead time of 7-10 days

jesus wept, i thought toilet seats were about a tenner! :lorks:
Yes they are, unfortunatley they tend to fall to pieces after a few turds have been laid upon them. A half decent one with sturdy fixings will cost between £60 and £80 nowadays.
