ASDA Living - The new Asda Home shop in Stafford

Mrs Stafford Beast said their tills were down today and there were a lot of annoyed people who had done all their shopping and had to queue. They said it could be until 3pm when they can start trading again.

I've just been into Asda on Queensville for the first time. I had a bit of a look round whilst my passenger was collecting a purchase. It all seemed a bit 'pre-boot sale' to me, but I suspect that I'm not their primary target market. The hot chocolate in the Costa café upstairs made it all worthwhile. I suspect that, if I had to work there, I would soon get heartily sick of the enforced Christmasness on the Tannoy and repeatedly being told to 'please step off' the escalator.

The bouncers were quite nice when I set the alarm off whilst attempting to exit the store.

I have to say I was pretty underwhelmed by the place myself. It doesn't really seem to offer anything new, especially in the context of that retail park which is stuffed full of the same old shops selling the same old things. I mean, how many tea, coffee & sugar caddies, bathroom towels, cheap canvass prints etc does a person need?

The Costa on the retail park drives me bonkers, the queues are always a bazillion people long, i'd much rather come home and put my feet up with a good cuppa!

It certainly had Costa printed on the napkin - but maybe they've just nicked a stack from across the way....
Wonder if Tescos are nicking them too? Went in Tescos cafe yesterday while I waited for the opticians evil eye drops to wear off, and Im sure it said Costa everywhere... mind you, I had just been to the opticians and could hardly see a thing!

It definitely did say that on the napkin - I remember thinking that it was a bit odd, when you could see a 'real' Costa out of the window. I believe that the crockery was branded likewise, but I didn't pay that much attention..

I have heard that the Tesco Cafe will be closed and a Costa open up in its place. Tesco Express already have Costa coffee stations in them so it would make sense if a 'proper' Costa opened in the store.

That makes sense then, the napkins and the sugar definatly had Costa printed on them. Hopefully they will invest in teapost that dont deposit your tea all over the table instead of in your cup too!

Tescos are converting their cafes into Costas at a very rapid rate. Result, you can't get filter coffee anymore, only sodding Americano, and the selection of sandwiches is much poorer. The Stafford one has been a Costa for several weeks.

These 'posh coffee' shops do a lot of flaffing about, all that individual brewing etc, must be something about justifying the prices. Another thing, can't get a decent cup of tea in these places as the hot water is not set to boiling point and you end up something that resembles dish water. I feel better after that chunter

I'll admit to not liking the noise level, either. I got dragged into, I think, Caffe Nero a while ago and conversation was impossible above the noise of escaping steam - I suspect that it would have been adversely commented upon in an industrial settling, even some years ago...

I'd always choose Costa, which paid £15.5 million in tax on its £49.5 million profit last year. If you find its coffee tastes like thin gravy, there is a perfectly honest choice of cafes & independent coffee shops down the road in the road in the town centre.
