Here's an incident I had the misfortune to witness off Korsakov in Sakhalin Island, It was a joint air sea rescue between the Russians and the Japanese. The Helicopter in question is adapted to allow it to take off from open water, having just lifted off it crashed back down breaching the hull. Had the pilot cut the engines it would have floated on its airbags sadly it looked as if he was attempteing to take off again. The video says only one died but there were rumours of 3 fatalities. The Mil14 helicopter had flown earlier from the same airbase that the SU15 fighter was scrambled to take down flight KAL007 . The same SU15 aircraft in 2006 at the time of this video was a museum peace in Yuzhno Sakhalin's capital.. only in Russia.

You have to wonder about the selection of Blackjack for the NATO codename - plenty of other two syllable words beginning with B are available.

It also makes you wonder who stole from who? Tupolev conducted the first tests in 1981, where as Rockwell was in 1986 (according to Wikipedia?)

Black Jack, all sinister and devious....I quite like the Russian name of "White Swan" Either way it is one hell of a piece of kit. I had the pleasure of watching one take off and do a display at Air Fete '97 at RAF Mildenhall. You could still feel the rumble of the afterburners in your chest on full reheat 3 miles away.

Irish Air Corps discover an aircraft carrier - are the Naval Service trying to steal a march on them?

Actually, it is a retired Transaero Boeing 767 that is travelling from Shannon to Sligo in order to become a posh mobile home at a glamping site. It reached land again this evening for the last, short part of the journey.

A land journey all the way would have been just too complicated, apparently.

Is it just me, or doe the F-22 look very slow in its maneuvers?

This is an older report....but it checks out

Using Russia Today as an impartial source of information about US military capability is probably about as sensible as believing everything you see on BBC News or Sky News.
