I have spoken on a number of occasions with New Beacon Group, the owners of the former Staffordshire University Campus, about the future of sports facilities there. They clearly appreciate the importance of public access to facilities, which I welcome. They are determined to develop a first-class international school and centre for technical education at Beaconside and sports facilities will play an important role.

Yes the information coming out of discussions we are having with the New Beacon Group about access to the astro pitch and the sports centre are encouraging

JL has negotiated a deal utilising 2empty Stafford assets. Residents can use the Beaconside sports centre but the only available parking will be at the "Morrisons"car park.

I've predicted it reopening before now, but better than before and still an all welcome, type of place.

Summer opening planned, but i think more end of Autumn.

It needed a refit and it sounds like that's their plan, hopefully they use a bigger room for the gym, heck it doesn't matter all that much, as long as it's opening again!

Well done to those that helped fight for it's survival, i'm sure it went a long way to convince the new lot, it should be open (again) to the public.

It will be called Beacon Sport and Fitness

The refurbishment has started and it will include updating the centre and brand new equipment for the fitness room.

The centre itself will have a:

• Fitness Suite
• Sports Hall
• Fitness Studio
• Astro Turf
• Extensive sport fields
• Residential accommodation for training courses
• Outdoor training space for strength and conditioning

The new Gym Manager starts on the 22nd May

Yes the astro will still be available for public bookings, including hockey, at least until the school opens

Residential training courses... I wonder I they will hold PT training courses. I'm still tempted to train as a PT.

I was told, the new lot/investors, consulted previous employees of the gym/sports centre and asked them (or however many of them), if they'd like their jobs back.
