There were a number of people in Tesco today who should not be in charge of a trolley. Sudden stopping, turning suddenly with no indication. Blocking the aisle whilst having a converstion with an old friend. Charging for a gap thats not there. Children not properly strapped in!

Then to top it off there was a pong enimating from a large couple.

I stopped using tesco for that exact reason, not the pong but the disorganised chaos of shoppers not being able to make a decision which way they are going and ppl parking trolleys horizontally across the aisle, use to drive me insane! I also don't like the way they pile the entrance full of offers of fat laden items and other things designed to take your money of you! I tried Asda didn't get on there either ( but quite glad of that since snotgate in the bakery on a previous thread) I now use sainsburys's took me a while to remember to hand in my parking ticket to claim my money back, but found a way to use the price comparison vouchers, today I put some of my shopping through and used last weeks voucher and today's parking ticket to get £3.50 off, upon receipt I received £5 off a £30 shop which I used in the rest of the shopping I put through and I also bought a token for the shopping trolley so I don't have to worry about having pound coins all of the time.

I’m wondering where the best supermarket is

I am constantly frustrated in Tesco – it seems part of their customer service training is to disregard it entirely. The front of house and till staff or generally very pleasant, I find the price and choice of items to be pretty good and with the extras you get from club card points it’s usually where I go to do the shopping. The main issue I have is the internet shoppers, depending on the time of day, there are sometimes 3-4 on most isles and they are on the whole rude and inconsiderate, I get cross when someone can see they’re stopping you from getting what you need but still carry on at a slow speed without a second thought for the customers who are trying to shop. Half the time you can’t get onto an isle because there are two of them blocking the way and after you have stood and waited, or moved out of their way you’re not even acknowledged with a thank you. I personally think it’s a disgusting way to treat people who part with their hard earned pennies to keep them employed.

In ASDA till staff seem to be the most unfriendly bunch of individuals I have ever come across, although every now and then you get one who is embarrassingly over friendly. With the exception of the fruit and veg isle which is pretty good, I don’t think they have the choice of Tesco or Sainsbury’s, last time I was in there I couldn’t find something I was looking for so I asked someone who worked there, the reply I received was “it’s not my department, how am I supposed to know where they keep it?” Brilliant!!

Sainsbury’s is just a nightmare from start to finish, between the hunt for spare change that I never seem to have and the car park vultures, buy the time I’ve bought the parking I haven’t got change for the trolley, there always seems to be a large abundance of employees – still in uniform doing their own shopping and seem to forget that whilst wearing the Sainsbury’s coat they still represent the company they work for, although the behave with complete distain for the shoppers around them. The till system there is something else entirely, the supervisors allow tills to be closed when there a 5 people queued up at the only 3 remaining tills, it once took me over an hour to get through the checkout, and that was the point I stopped regularly using Sainsbury’s for my shopping. I think they have a good selection of items but my shopping is always more there and I don’t go back often enough to use the vouchers.

To be honest I hate shopping – not just a little bit but I really really really hate it. I love Waitrose in Newport, it’s never heaving with people, they do some really nice things, and you can scan your own shopping and bag it up as you go round, it saves 20 minutes and makes the whole experience a little more bearable. I could just do with a lottery win as a weekly shop there is at least £20-£30 more and you don’t have a huge selection of produce.

Admin: Please can you alter the title for me - I can spell – honestly ;)

I think it’s just too early on a weekend morning and it’s my body’s way of telling me I should still be in bed.

I use Lidl. Very civilised, especially in the evening. Hardly any tossers in there. They never move stuff about. The car park's no trouble, but some parts are a bit tight and you might like to take care not to get a knock off some careless parker. You can park in the shade in the summer, too.

I use sainsbury a lot, but only because it's easy to pop into after work. I prefer lidl, and as long as you aren't after all named brands they will work out cheaper. Their half price weekend deals are always worth looking at too.

I shop at Sainsburys for two reasons. I don't drive so its easier to get to being the closest to me. The second reason is for the nectar points. I only have one critism i'd like to share. The tills. Whenever i go in the tills are often four deep. When they realise things are a bit daft they put out a call for more till staff. But no one turns up! So another call goes out and another and another. But often hardly anyone answers the call.

I find the staff friendly enough. It's just a shame about the tills.

I use Sainsburys, mainly because it's less than a 5 minute walk from home. It's my "corner shop". 9 times out of 10 I can find everything I want, then they go and change stuff about and I get confused and annoyed. Staff on the whole are friendly and helpful, but I do agree with Bob and Arcadesteve, the tills are a nightmare. They always close down the better self service tills in favour of the ones by Customer Service, the others have 2 with a nice big packing area and, if i've got a big box, or a lot in my basket it's so much easier.

I get so annoyed with the ones packing for internet shoppers as well. They plonk theirs trolley things in front of the shelves & products and stand blocking the way , ignoring requests to move over slightly so that I can actually get to things. Especially the ones in Asda by the fruit & veg on a saturday morning. I have also been knocked out of the way on a couple of occasions.I first of all thought it was employees doing stock checks or amending prices when I first encountered them, until another frustrated customer told me what they were doing. If I want to get to as shelf and they are parked in front I just push it out of the way now ........ some of the looks I've had off them ! I keep meaning to e-mail head office to complain, but I doubt it would make any difference. I only use Asda as most things are cheaper than my local co-op.Most times in Asda I have to go to the customer service desk on the way out about overcharges, when the price on the till is no-where near the bargain price on the shelf. Happening a bit too often , I suppose they count on lots of shoppers not checking their receipts .

I HATE the new Tesco for some reason, although I used to always use the old one. Especially popping in early morning for something and the floor polisher things are driving around with that annoying 'beep, beep, beep'. Only go in there when it's worth it with good money off coupons.

I Like the local Co-op but can soon get through the housekeeping and not have much to see for it. They do have some good bargains each week so I stock up on the items that I usually use then.

Don't go there often enough but I like Stafford Lidls as well, nice prices, friendly staff and the goods always go through the tills at the prices as displayed. I can never keep up with them at the tills though....superfast ! .

B&M & Poundstretcher are my first choice for the items they sell ,as the prices are a fraction of supermarkets .

Only been to Sainsburys a couple of times for sons game card and got a couple of other items whilst there. I HATE IT! The till staff are horrible, queued for ages with my few items only to be rudely told "Go over there to the customer service desk to pay for the game card" Went there, stood for ages whilst they finished their conversation, only to be told "You don't need to come here, you should have paid at the tills!". Horrible , Horrible shop!!

At 3.30ish on Friday it took me 40 minutes to get out of there. It is such a pain, I avoid like the plague at weekends if at all possible and I'm rarely there at rush hour so I don't usually have an issue getting out of the car park. I think at the time there was an issue on the M6, so Stafford traffic wasn't moving at all, I needed to go to Eccleshall after Tesco and actually managed to steal some time back by going via Derrington as I know it took someone almost two hours to get from Moss Pit to Doxey.

Have you considered doing your shop online?

It seems you get idiots in any shop, and if its taking up too much of your time a few clicks online and it can be delivered to you!
I cant say I've ever done it but I'm sure someone can recommend - also if you use sites like moneysupermarket it can tell you the cheapest place! :)
I personally use asda as I find their own brand range the cheapest and best quality!

Alternatively if your that funny looking smelly person people tend to give you a lot more space..... just an idea....

I tried Internet shopping once at tesco never again the bananas were over ripe for my liking and the joint of lamb I ordered looked like road kill with the crows having got there before me and picked the best bits off!

If you don't mind the run, Waitrose in Lichfield is excellent. Much wider range than Newport. Pricier yes, but personally I think the quality of service is something you can't get with the 'big 4', and I value that.

I've done it a few times but we have a lot of fresh stuff, I buy bagged salad based on the end date as I only want to subject myself to the torture of Tesco once per week. If there are three sorts I like I'll grab the bag with the longest date on it, you can't order from the meat counters or the fresh fish counter online and often with fresh stuff, you get the order and everything has just 1 day on it and the apples are all bruised.

The substitutions aren't great most of the time, you have to either request no substitutions or let them throw in whatever they think - which wouldn't necessarily be what you'd pick. I once ordered feta cheese -there are usually 4 different brands available, if not I'd say any other form of goats chees would be acceptable - instead I got a tube of primular, with smoked ham, still no idea to this day why.
