Car Wash near to the Shell Garage

Hey,

There used to be a car wash near to the Shell Garage, next door to the chippy and behind the pub.

Had heard it's gone - but relocated?

Anyone know any news, or if it's coming back - or perhaps the best place to get your car washed now? (apart from outside your own house with a bucket and sponge).

I thought that it was there until very recently, but I'll check next time I'm going past.

You've hit the ground running - keep it up.

The Kar Wash does indeed appear to have just ceased to operate. I've just been past and it's all shut with no little notice giving any reasons or relocation details that I could see anywhere.

There are various other manual car wash facilities about - I'm hardly a connoisseur in these matters. The boys and girls on Tesco's car park seem to be quite reasonable and there was one on the Princess Royal car park for a while, if it's still there.

You're right! I was confused - Kar Wash was behind the BP(that used to be Shell!!!) garage and behind what used to be the Falcon pub and subsequently became a chip shop. But that seems to be gone as well. I haven't noticed the one on the Princess Royal car park for a while now - there may have been logistical problems when it was shut.

The Kar Wash by FMS was another company owned by the Paul Cope empire I think (see other thread on pub closure) so if they're shut, I'm guessing it's something to do with him.

It was just me being confused by the fact that the garage by Halfords was a Shell outlet for many years, just as I still think of the one by the prison as a Texaco, even though it isn't anymore. They shouldn't be allowed to just change names willy-nilly. Chicago Rock will always be Allied Carpets to me.

Kar Wash is the one near FMS. The one I was referring to is/was on the Sandon Road. They did a good job for a good price.

Kar Wash, if they are still there, do do a good job but it's a bit more pricey. Tescos peeps do an ok job, but just worry about the car. I saw them cleaning a BMW X5 and clambering all over it to clean which didn't fill me with much confidence. I also wonder how they actually clean the cars, as they don't appear to use much water and therefore are they cleaning and scratching my car at the same time!

Hahah... now it would have been cool had Chicago kept the escalators!!! I could see hours of pissed up fun there! Might have even been worth a visit! haha

i always use the automated thing at asda, but my sister swears by the tesco chaps.. i, too, worry about their treatment of the cars though, highguy.. note that this isn't based on any evidence at all; i've never heard a bad report from them..

(welcome to the forum btw, highguy :) )

Kar Wash, on Greyfriars, was operating just a few minutes ago as I went past. My earlier report of their possible demise may have been misleading. But I still haven't seen any evidence of the Sandon Road one since all this started.

I always used to use the one up by Maccy'ds as I loved the smell of the colour foam as I went through! hahaha

Can't use them at all now as I've got a car with a big spoiler on (not in a chavvy way I hasten to add!) so i have to do it myself all the time :( or go to Greyfriars... but at £7 quid a pop it's only a once a month treat or so.

how on earth does a spoiler stop you using a carwash? unless it is one of those chavvy massive ones? lol

I went to tesco and had the car washed. Was expecting a five/ten minute job so went into shop for a couple of things. The lad was still cleaning the car when I got back, and maybe its because I was standing waiting and watching, but frankly its never been washed so good. Absolutely gleaming, windows polished, even my wheels were clean. Five quid. That was about a year ago, and next time it needs washing I will go back. ;)

Highly recommended.
