I have just been told about a letter going around here about residentds parking, any one got one, we don't have any on Castle Street. There is also an information pack coming too.

From what I can remember, yes. It's about a residents-only parking scheme. It's been a week or so since I read it, so my memory is dim, but I'll get it on the forum tonight.

Alas, I asked my partner, and the letter went in the recycling bins some time last week. Sorry. :-(

It was a letter from a local councillor, and it mentioned that a residents-only parking scheme was being considered for Castletown. It also said that everyone on the estate would be contacted again later in the day to canvass opinions, and if it seemed feasible, it would go ahead. We haven't had the second letter yet, so you're not missing out! :)

Does anyone in Castletown still have the letter?

My stretch of Castletown did not receive the letter, hence a fiery email about to be sent off to the county council!

I don't think it was from the council. If memory serves, it was an individual councillor not acting on behalf of the council itself. Perhaps only the streets that regularly get clogged with cars got it? But then, are there any streets in Castletown that don't regularly get clogged with cars?

The letter was from Councillor Maureen Compton....I live on Doxey Rd and didn't get one either, so sent her an email last week. She replied yesterday with a copy of the letter and a brief explanation of why Doxey Rd residents didn't receive the letter. Although I don't drive, this is important to me as it decreases the value of my house, plus having lots of friends in Castletown i've seen the general disruption the lack of parking causes...and the amount of parking tickets given out...

Dear Resident,

Residents’ Parking Scheme

As your local County Councillor and as a member of the Stafford Local Parking Committee, I wish to let you know that the Castletown Area of Stafford has been identified as the first area in the Borough to be considered for the introduction of a Residents’ Parking Scheme. Many residents have been requesting a parking scheme for some time and in my election leaflet in 2005 I stated that I would pursue this scheme.

There is a long way to go before finalisation of a scheme but the County Council will be writing to all residents in the near future explaining the process and requesting your initial views. Assuming that there is enough support, detailed proposals will be drawn up and further consultation will be undertaken. You will be receiving an information pack shortly but if, in the meantime, you wish to talk through the wider picture you can contact an officer from the County Council on 01785 276534.

Once you receive your information pack, I shall be pleased to hear your views so that I can argue your case at the Stafford Local Parking Committee.

Kind regards
Yours sincerely

County Cllr Maureen Compton

...and the response to my email was:

Dear Mr Rex, Thanks for sending me your email. I have received other emails from Doxey Road residents. I am enclosing a copy of the letter I sent to residents in the Castletown area. I have been working with the County Council officers on this issue and told them that I would be sending out an introductory letter. They sent me the list of streets for the proposed Castletown residents parking scheme but Doxey Road was not on the list. I have queried this with them but in the meantime I delivered to the other streets. I shall be contacting the County officers again on Monday to confirm the situation regarding Doxey Road residents. I agree with you that it is important that Doxey Road residents are included in any scheme. There is going to be considerable consultation and information on a residents' parking scheme and I am very grateful to you for raising concerns. I shall pass your concerns to the officers and also ask for an answer to my question. The County Officers are willing to talk through issues and have the telephone number 01785 276534. I am a member of the Stafford Local Parking Committee which is very useful in raising issues about this scheme. Thank you for communicating with me and I shall email you with further information. Kind regards to you. Cllr Maureen Compton

Thanks Andreas, I didn't get the letter either, neither did a couple of my neighbours that I have spoken to.

The residents parking scheme proposals have been going since before I lived in the area, my mum had something to do with the original proposals just over 20 years ago, and the council said they would look into it then, but as you can see we are still waiting.

It would just be nice to see tickets on cars that deserved them for a change.

Just had another email...

Hello, I have received an email from the County officers dealing with this scheme and they will be ensuring that residents in Doxey Road are included within their consultation with a view to permitting your parking in adjacent streets. I am informed that there is some considerable way to go before definitive proposals can be developed and a scheme introduced that is acceptable to the majority of the residents. However, your comments are welcomed and thus a scheme may well change as its detailed design evolves. I shall now be sending letters to the remainder of the residents in Doxey Road. Your comments have all been sent to the County officers as a preliminary part of the consultation. You will however be receiving consultation packs in due course from the County Council. Thank you very much for contacting me. Maureen

not entirely to do with parking but I've have recieved today a questionare through my door asking about traffic problems in the following areas :

Doxey Road
Milton Grove
Rowley Avenue
Newport Road
Wolverhampton Road
West Way
Tennyson Road

Its related to safer routes to school but it appears to be a rare opportunity to voice your opinions, it comes with an SAE and also asks about parking etc so don't ignore it.

Probably, its targeted at residents of highlighted problem roads. But its the first time I've been asked for an opinion which in itself is a breakthrough on the on the county councils part. It actually makes a change being asked to moan and being given a name of who to moan to.

It also means that they can't deny knowledge of the problems.

My main gripe is the problems have been pointed out time and time again to both the council and the police and blatently ignored, sadly culminating in a predictable near fatal accident and probably why they are taking an interest.

But if your in Castle Town you may know someone on the Doxey Road whos had one that you could add your contibution to.

There is a contact name and email on the letter i will PM it to you.

I got a letter through today from the Development Services Directorate regarding the proposed parking scheme for Castletown, with a map of where is to be included (and they do intend to include the Doxey Rd section too), and a questionnaire asking how much of an issue the parking situation is, and how effective/useful a residents scheme would be. Even though this is still a proposal, it's looking pretty likely to happen :)
