Right, we appear to be back on track after our little nostalgia trip, now does anyone know what is going on at the old castleworks? I have a suspicion that it could involve roads/bypass, houses, maybe one of our elected members could enlighten us......

Housing would make sense, 'cause they have been doing quite a bit of clearance, survaying, etc, on the scrap of land, former car park/railway track at the rear, recently!

All characters in their own right. Still being "involved" with the set up it is apparent there is a lack of characters there once used to be. A real shame.
I see Butch at the boot sale often. He's seriously under the thumb these days. Cheers me up no end.

Cyril is big in the HomeStart set-up. Charlie Brown I haven't seen for a while, but I get reports. Johnny Ray is still about - usually supervised by Coral...

Here's some more names.

John Campbell.
Len Smith.
Ken James.
Reg Matthews.
Ron Key.
Dave Hudson.
Harold Lottinga.
Jim Cranston.
Harry Holland.

etc....
May I deviate a little longer?

Add to that list -

John Francis (Whatever happened to that little tiger?)
Bill Titley
Tony Styles
Jim Fogherty
Bill Crowther
Ernie Jenks
Alan Eccleshall
John Matthews
John Mulrooney

Then from the packers -
Alan Davies
JohnWindows
Bob Gee
What a bunch!
........could go on.....they don't make 'em like they used to!

Maybe I'm not deviating too much as most of the above were stalwarts in a local company that stuck with it. Castle Works is part of that history and as we evolve its still good to reminisce. I actually started there before embarking on a career with GEC, as it was back then.

You could at least spell my name right! Not that anybody ever did then, either. Tommy Tannoy is now a Conservative councillor, and often to be seen in local papers. I haven't seen Ernie Jenks or Alan Davies for some years, but all the others are still in circulation - in fact Pink Floyd is still there, up St Leonard's.

Work in progress at castleworks at the end of the remnants of a car park on the side nearest the factory buildings stood a clump of trees, well until a few hours ago. Workmen are chainsawing the last large pieces and the small stuff is being shredded. They've almsost finished for the day, i've left gilbert to keep an eye on things (he's got the field glasses) while i file this report..........

You'll be lucky, he missed his lunchtime booze to get me down to see this. Although he'll endeavour to get the contractors name from the truck as it exits the site........
