Chambers is a regular Friday night out for me, I'll be propping up the bar tomorrow (or should that be the other way round!). My drinking associate is particularly taken with the Chambers Gold.

We have also eaten there countless times and the food and service have, more often than not, been excellent. On the two occasions we have had to draw attention to the food, one was a cheese omelette that arrived with no cheese, the other was a burger that arrived with moldy cheese. Both were changed when brought to staff's attention.

It does seem that most issues are to do with cheese!

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but a little birdie tells me that Chambers will soon be offering a carvery throughout the week, and at a very reasonable price. Any more info stormtrooperchef?

This interests me greatly.

We will indeed. It will be on within the next 2 weeks and will run every day from 12noon until 2.30pm with saturday and sunday running until 4.30pm.

3 choices of roast meats, usual suspects for veg and spuds and a salad bar.

Hopefully it will be a success

Suggest if price and portion size is more important than quality, atmosphere and a new menu everyday, you go back to the radford bank, for your overcooked beef carvery with all you can eat vegetables…

… this kind of establishment is not for your sort of people.

I still miss bignico and his/her crazy ways with the lingo and with the massively misunderstanding people in general, but you have to do what you can.

I have actually eaten at Chambers once but I think my experience was probably atypical – hence my reticence thus far.

I was part of a sizeable party on a Saturday night and the place was positively rammed. We were seated a bit later than intended, which I personally think is fair enough – you don’t want to be shoving people out of the door do you? – the party that preceded us was also quite large. Problem was that by the time we were seated I had already quaffed quite considerably, and the food took quite some time to get to us – again not unreasonably given the number of orders – meaning that by the time the food did arrive my critical facilities were pretty much absent (in an ‘ug, me want food, nyom nyom’ kind of way). They were not so absent as to not notice that my food was kinda lukewarm – which again I kinda accept in the large order circumstances, but, well, you know…

On the plus side I rather enjoyed the food, though as previously stated, I was really quite gone by the time I ate (which was, I hasten to add, my fault not yours) – my hindsight disappointments were that it was pork fillet instead of belly (it was fillet on the menu by the way, so I knew what I was getting, but I was hankering after the initial promise of the belly) and the crayfish sauce that came with it, though delicious, belonged on another plate.

I will most definitely return, despite what in re-reading sounds like a rather unflattering review – perhaps for lunch with naught but water – and still wish the best for you.

As for bignico, what comment on the carvery front?

I would just like to add a bit of an addendum (not wishing to sound like a meanie)
a) The reason i had so copiously imbibed was the beer was excellent
b) Those i ate with all enjoyed their meals, certainly no gripes were expressed on that front - as marinated as i was, i would still have remembered if there were
c) Though the menu may seem on the expensive side compared to the bogof stafford average, i thought the prices were an accurate reflection of the quality of food on offer

I didn't write before as i didn't think it would be fair - as i said, the circumstances of my visit were atypical of what most would experience - but was spurred into doing so by the irony of the arrogance of bignico when the place had just opened, with the sensible realpolitik-stylee evolution of Chambers.

Ace! I'm not intending to come and fill my pockets with roast potatoes or owt, but The Radford started restricting the amount of certain things such as Yorkshire puds & stuffing balls to 1 per person (unless you asked very nicely) instead of putting a tray out for you to help yourself.

I'm pretty sure that they are the cheapest bits of the carvery meal, and to someone like me who enjoys eating stuff it's a rather important factor. Can we have a list of the rules please, before I embarrass myself and anyone who dares accompany me?

Hi Andreas

Rules? We dont like rules. We are customer led and if you want 648 stuffing balls then good luck eating them!!!

The meat will be controlled obviously but everything else will be relaxed. I'm on the carvery so i will enjoy the banter with you so don't feel embarassed.

Your reply has made me very happy indeed - thanks! :)

I think I'll stick to a couple or 3 stuffing balls though...
