Hi Matt,

Welcome along!

I came in for lunch yesterday with a friend and we both had lovely food. We both just had a starter as weren't very hungry but wanted to check the place out.

I had the Pan fried mackerel, mouli, cucumber and spring onion salad with wasabi crème fraîche and my friend had the Chicken liver & brandy parfait, caramelised onion marmalade and granary toast. There was plenty of the parfait, so much so that I had to finish it off for her. The mackerel had nice crispy skin and was very tasty...the only thing I'd change is the amount of wasabi crème fraîche, as it was a very small amount.

We both agreed that it's a very nice place and well worth going back for a proper meal very soon...just a shame that it was completely dead but for a couple of oldies in the corner, and that was at the height of lunchtime!

Thanks. Hopefully we will get busier. We have missed a trick really in not advertising when we are opening. That has now been rectified. We now open at 11am for coffee and cake and 12-9.30 for the full menu.

Seing as you adjoin the virgin megastore I wonder how long this might last...

Its not so much a ban as wanting to keep out large groups of roudy teenagers. One of the reasons the Hogshead failed was no-one except students went in. It had the wrong atmosphere for most people just wanting a quiet drink or food with friends. Its at the managers disgretion so if, as has happened, a couple of younger people come in for a drink no problem.

Lol, it was almost our own pub! The smoking ban did it in though, once you weren't allowed to take drinks outside that left muggins here as the only non smoker left guarding 20 pints of other peoples beer for half the night!

The new years eve menu lists cannock chase venison, does this mean that patrons are to be offered roadkill?.....

Went here for the first time this evening with the gf, I had the Steak & Ale pie, she had Mushroom pancake, and a shared side of chips. The food is truly excellent; on a par with The Sun, if not better. I've lived in Stafford for around 18 months and with these two venues opening, it actually means there is some decent pub grub.

My only complaint- it was a bit quiet, there was no atmosphere. More customers and maybe a bit of music in the background? Will Definatley be back for more!
