Changes at the Guildhall.

The guildhall needs something to make people spend time there, it doesn't really have an anchor. It needs food, or some sort of social attraction, it has none.

The Guildhall needed to be anchored with a department store when it was first built. Has it ever been fully occupied? Will it ever again? It looks very dated and very unloved now. I do hope the owners actually spend a decent amount of money revamping it but I fear not.

It probably owns you/you probably own It

Yep you had better get those eyes sorted :)

There's

River island
Body Shop,
Kismet Rose Boutique,
Claires,
card factory
Clarks
Vision express
The Art Gallery
Carbon
Card Stop
Travel Bags
The fragrance Shop
Poundland
Supercuts
I motion Gym
Ugly mug cafe,
Rig Out
Mango Bean
Peccadillos

It has definitely been a busy week for the shops in the Guildhall, I guess it can depend how you time it.
Nothing for me these days.

I have no issue with the retailers and businesses in the guildhall, my issue is the amount of empty units.

problem the management are the wrong people, I would go in there and in 12months I could have that place as good as full. You have to ask yourself why the likes of tresspass, pandora and millets avoid the place.

Cost

How do you charge lower rates to fill the mall whilst retaining existing tennants on higher rents?

Exactly, they want to keep the high payers but they know they won't renew if others are getting it cheaper. Not sure exactly what the rents are like in there but the new rates threshold may help? The sweet shop in hunters row for example would now be free of rates, making it much more attractive. Its one of the few Tory decisions I've liked!

There comes a point where the money being lost through empty units must be higher than the amount of money being raised in car park charges.

It is an unpleasant experience getting into Stafford under normal conditions, but the fact that there's a ton of roadworks and you then have to pay for the privilege of visiting a half empty town just takes the biscuit.

But no, the council people won't actually put 2 + 2 together and realise this.

When something is a success and in demand you can get away with tolls and taxes on it. When it is in decline you can't.

Actually no, The new "better" rates don't come into play until next year and the Retail relief finished March 31st this year. So small Retailers have another year of even worse than last year before they get the Relief next year. It was a good decision but he should have started it this year. As ever with politicians, announcing stuff will happen in twelve months time takes peoples minds of the pick pocketing that is happening now
