Says private gardens behind them? They also have parking out front, and are similar sizes to the houses opposite which already appear to have parking.

Doh! - just realised walking past the Chetwynd that the plans for those would be on a separate planning application since they would be new build - not part of the conversion application.

Even with all of the shielding in the world not sure I'd want houses that back onto a busy supermarket with delivery vans etc

Hi Wormella, thanks for all the great info. I live on Friars Terrace so I'm quite interested in this development. I would urge people not to be put off by the new properties backing onto Tesco. The noise is minimal, far less than the train lines many other properties (inc new developments) back onto. The advantage of the plot is the back gardens won't be overlooked as in many typical estates. Each to their own though, I'll struggle not to have a supermarket 3 mins away, train station and town 8 mins away now having got used to the location. If the development brings traffic calming it will be a bonus though.

If I had billions of pounds I'd get all 3 and turn them into a flexible events space / café / bar / hotel complex (not that I walk past them every day and I've given this some thought)

Now wouldn't that be something. I also walk past them every day and wonder if the old cinema, adjoining shops and the plot of land at the rear will be replaced by a new development in time. With the new cinema, park regeneration and potential HS2 station it could become a prime spot.

HS2 is simply a gravy train

It will never be built

I'm not an advocate of HS2 over all, but if the gravy train does roll I hope it stops in town! A lot of money has been invested so far (studies, consultations, route planning, station master planning, capacity simulations, land purchases... list goes on) so would be a shame to see that wasted, wouldn't be the first time though hey.

But Crossrail is such a huge hit, even though no-one knows when it will be open and how many zeros more will be added to the fugures.

Yes I would say I am. I give it 50/50 of coming off as we may need large infrastructure projects to keep things going with Brexit in the offing. Not holding my breath but fingers are crossed.

It won't stop at Stafford as such but there will be a connection at Handsacre between HS2 and WCML so we might get a few trains coming to Stafford.

Also HS2 phase 2 is now 12 months running later than was planned, see below.

The HS2 plan for Stafford is for an hourly service from/to London Euston, with a journey time of 53 minutes.

Of course, plans can change.

Like the "Eurostar plans" did...
They spent a fortune upgrading the track and stations for the regional Eurostar trains.

Then they spent another fortune designing and building the regional Eurostar trains (plus the sleeper versions).

Then they spent another fortune testing the trains, building maintenance depots for them, and preparing and publishing the timetables.

Then, just days before they were due to start, they changed their minds and scrapped the lot.

They = our Government.

But don't worry, they had someone to pick up the massive bill, the taxpayer.
