Just had the most enjoyable afternoon sitting in the sunshine in the Bird beer garden.

You're met by a staff member when you walk in, asked to hand sanitise then taken to an ordering space at the bar then taken to a table.

We sat in a large bench area where there was more than enough space to social distance from other acquaintances.

Loads of sanitiser in the pub and rules for toilet occupancy, etc.

To top the afternoon off Becks and Dean were in with new baby Chelsea (I mean Faye) in a segregated area in the Snug :)

We felt completely safe but I'm still not going in on an evening or at a weekend for a while.

No two at the porcelain and one in the cubicle but it was empty when I went in.

Had my first pint in the local. Table service and spread out tables and just two of us in there, but it is a Monday dinnertime. Landlord told me the weekend was quiet, but I've noticed a few coming down. Campsite at Tamar Lake finally in use, and I have to say they've made quite some effort and put in timber dividers to keep the pitches at distance from each other.

This isn't the touristy end of Cornwall, but there's no denying the lack of visitors is being felt. It is a primary income for many.

I forgot to mention that while I was in the pub, I got talking to the landlady about the problems they've faced over the last three months. Eventually she revealed that she had a body temperature monitor which I asked to see out of curiosity. So she pulls out this Mark Four Star Trek phasor, set it to stun and pointed it at my forehead for a brain shot. (An easy target in my case ... :P)

    Apparently I'm 37 !!!

I walked out of the pub with a spring in my step.

Can you wrangle it off her and bring it to where I work? You can shoot as many people as you want, promise...

So some people went to the pub even though they were awaiting test results? Wow.

They must have at the very least booked a test before they went, if not taken it already. People are idiots.

I have one of this sort - not desperately accurate and not intended for healthcare use, with a very wide measuring range (-50C to +380C)..

The laser pointer would worry me.

I can imagine people using similar ones to 'make the effort'.

Son went into 3 pubs on Saturday night and none took names and contact details. His mate had booked the tables for the first pub ,so just given his details for the booking. The other 2 pubs they all just walked in as tables didn't have to be pre-booked and weren't even asked for details.

Edited....originally a city centre pub reported by the press as being closed down by the cops on Saturday night.....turns out the landlord closed the pub as :

"The police later paid us a visit at around 9pm but by then I had already decided to close. I had had enough. Nobody cared about social distancing or safety. It was a free for all. Myself and my doorman tried hard to police people but people would not listen.
"They were shouting across the room, refusing to sit down and just behaving like drunken idiots. Getting them to comply was just impossible. I don't think it was a good idea to allow pubs to re-open on a Saturday. It was chaos.
"I had to take the decision to close for public safety. With the way people were behaving it would have been irresponsible for me to continue serving. I had to cut my losses and shut for the night.

"On my way home I saw many other city venues open with customers packed in like sardines. It was ridiculous!"

Not quite as Boris envisaged everywhere to be

Not been to a pub yet and no plans to visit as of now. I am away at a pub campsite this weekend so if it is dry and has a beer garden then I may have a pint, but probably not.
