I remember in the early 80s, the Coliseum had a really small room called Phase II. If my memory serves me right (which it probably doesn't) when you used to walk up stairs and see the glass mirrored wall at the top, if you turned right you would go into the main club, but if you turned left and went up another level, this is where Phase II was. It housed about 20 people at most (including the DJ) and made The Cellar Bar at the Reynolds seem like a, well...like a nightclub.

Yeah, I never went in myself but my mum and sisters worked there before the fire. Phase II was on the third floor, where the two flats were as well. After the fire they never rebuilt the third floor.

Thinking about it...you could do a quiz on there...Rotate two boards and keep people amused while they are stuck in traffic, waiting for your board to come round the next time with the answer.

Now here is an idea...
Rig a camera to point at the yellow box junction outside the Apollo and show photos of the arsebuckets that break the law by stopping within. Read the number plates and caption them such at "DX59FGF, You are a prick!" (I picked that one at random - the driver of said vehicle is probably not a prick).
I'd agree with that, even if the sign is slightly brighter that the sun.

Hi

I would like to introduce my self and the business Ad:Vantage Digital. This is not meant to be a advert post but merely a polite introduction and background regarding the Digital Media Screen on Newport Road.

The Digital Media Screen has been installed and is operated by our self's (Ad:Vantage Digital Ltd) at Couture on Newport Road.

By using the latest Digital technology we are able to offer a high-footfall location to multiple local businesses. This helps keeps the cost of advertising down for individual advertisers and maximizes the potential of one individual advertising site.

Offering this Digital format to local businesses is a new venture and has been previously limited to large brands and companies advertising in large cities and on motorway networks. These sites are not accessible to local businesses due to the high cost of advertising involved. Ad:Vantage Digital aim to bring this form of high-end digital advertising to a more local level and offer the many benefits it brings.

Such Benefits include:
  • Multiple adverts in one location (reducing the need for more advertising in the surrounding area)
  • More cost effective and affordable for local businesses
  • Clear, Clean images day and night not only minimizes the impact on the appearance of the surrounding area over paper based advertising that can easily be damaged by weathering, but also reduces the risk of distraction that poorly lit, hard to read paper based advertising may cause.
  • Scheduling of adverts allows us to make sure adverts displayed are current and not out of date. It also allows advertisers to select a package that suits there budget and target audience. Our Carbon footprint is also reduced overall as the site does not require paper based adverts to be manually replaced and maintained.
  • 24/7 remote monitoring allows us to see exactly the condition and brightness of the screen.

We have worked closely with Stafford Planning and Highways to bring this new opportunity to Stafford. Planning has been approved on the site and a number of conditions have been placed on the Digital Media Screen to make sure it operate in a safe and controlled manner.

We take on-board comments above about how bright the screen is. It is a fine balancing act between operating an effective advertising medium and the safety for pedestrians and roads users in the area. To overcome theses issues the screen has a light sensor that accurately measures the ambient light conditions every 120 seconds. This information is then used to automatically adjust the brightness of the screen. The sensor used is accurate enough to re-adjust the screens brightness with the slightest weather change, for example cloud cover thickness.

This ensures the screen operates within an agreed level of brightness at all times as outlined in the approved planning application.

The screen has been on and off during a 2 week testing period. The screen is however now in fully operating service and we will constantly review and amend all aspects of its use including brightness and advert change speeds as the project progresses.

If you would like to contact us regarding any of the issues above please feel free to email us on Stafford@AdvantageInAdvertising.com

Best Regards

That reminds me: great minds of the Stafford Forum, I need your help!

As I mentioned above, we have a three-week campaign on this board in the run-up to our Open Evenings on 13-15 December.

Instead of the normal kind of advertising, I'd love to use the space to run a series of 'factoids'. One interesting and obscure fact per change-panel, with the reminder at the bottom of the panel that you can 'get the facts' at our Open Evenings.

So can you think of anything suitable?

I need one sentence facts along the lines of: "There are no recorded cases of anyone having their arms broken by a swan".

Can you think of anything? Need to brief the artist by the end of this week...

'Hello' to all users of this forum and an extended 'Hello' to all residents, business owners and visitors in Stafford

May I take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Steven Wilson and together with my business partner, Craig Jones, we are responsible for the state-of-the-art LED Billboard that has been recently installed at Newport Road under the operating company Ad:Vantage Digital Ltd. We may sound like a large scale, multinational company; and due to the hugely attention-grabbing effect of our excellent media screen we may appear to be some big, 'out-of-town' company; I can assure you that we are two, young gentlemen who have worked for over 2 years in order to make a dream, an ambition - a vision - come alive.

Please allow me to continue by resting your minds at ease that this LED Billboard has been installed following lengthy, in-depth research and after several Pre-Planning Applications and Planning Applications over the course of many months. We have worked tirelessly with Stafford Council - who, may I add; have been excellent in their help and support with our business proposal. The Council have also, at all times, put the welfare and consideration of the residents and business owners of Stafford first ensuring that everything that we have done has the 'best interest' of Stafford at heart. I would personally like to thank everybody at the Council for their help and support and for being an 'approachable' Council.

Let me further continue by briefly mentioning the procedures that we have undertaken to ensure Highways Agency regulations have been satisfied. Using state-of-the-art technology - a light sensor which monitors ambient light every 90 seconds - gives data to a computer which drives the LED Billboard and using on-board software, the screen brightness meets the requirements of the Highways Agency.

These factors have all been considered and we have endeavoured to ensure that no detrimental effect has been made to the immediate vicinity with the installation of our LED Billboard.

Allow me now to talk about the purpose of our business - the vision!

Since 2008, times have been hard for many of us. Constant talk of Credit-Crunches, Recession and Struggling Local Economy. I'm sure that many of you reading this have in some way been affected. The installation and operation of our LED Billboard is to bring new life to Stafford - we live in a changing time where new technology has to be embraced. (The UK is the second largest exporter of services in the World - in particular IT and digital services- shouldn't we embrace this industry within our own Country, within our own Towns and Cities?)
Furthermore, we are creating jobs in the area and helping local businesses to establish themselves; helping them to survive, compete and even flourish. Already we host adverts for some of the most reputable Companies, Services and Institutions of Stafford. We are proud to be working with them and really want to thank them all for their support in our innovative, new business. Our Mission Statement from the outset has always been:
'To provide prime location advertising space, at local and affordable rates - to help local businesses and economies grow and flourish'

To conclude, I sincerely hope that this has answered a few questions that have been asked on this forum. May I just ensure that every point that has been raised on this forum has already been raised by your considerate and caring Council and we have have worked long and hard to ensure all of these points have been addressed and any guidelines set down by the Council and Highways Agency have been adhered to keep the 'best interest' of Stafford at heart.

It leaves me to thank once again everybody who has been of massive support to us - in particular, Stafford Council, Couture Nightclub, The Stafford Town Partnership, Stafford College, The Guildhall, The Lewis Group and all of our advertisers current and future for your support.

It seems that the screen is having a massive effect already as many people are commenting on this forum. Good to see that it is doing exactly what we set out for it to do. For more information about Stafford's Premier advertising space please do not hesitate to contact me:

I probably shouldn't use the first one. At least, not if I want to keep my job. The second one is brilliant. It even hints at the potentially life-saving importance of vocational training. Is it true?
