Guess it makes it a lot harder to change tyres though
I'd wondered about that too, does anyone have experience of hub gears? I have read good reviews about the latest Shimano offerings, Nexus and Alfine, but it is the practical aspect of having to remove the rear wheel to fix punctures etc that has put me off.
I would recommend Schwalbe Marathon+ tyres, however, pricey but virtually puncture proof.

I really can't see it being very difficult. It's only like a Sturmey Archer, as far as I can see, just a lot better, I hope.

How often do you ride gk?
Not as often as i'd like too - my riding buddies live far away and the weather is sh*t and numerous other excuses.

Would defo be up for hitting the chase some time if you fancy it.

I did do the Cannock Chase Questars last year... great experience especially for first timers.

Sounds like a good plan, I'm yet to see the follow the dog trail so fancy hitting that sometime?

Perhaps when the weather improves we should have a forum cycle outing to a nearby pub. No Andreas, not the railway :teef:

One of my favourite has to be the old railway line running from near beaconside, past astonfields and into town and then onto the track again just past castlefields, and all the way up to haughton for a quick pint at the Shropshire Inn :)
Since my accident, I choose not to drive! This has had a positive effect on my wasteline, as I now take my bike to work 4 days a week; go through Rowley Park, past Jen shoes, the old Castleworks, and pick up the Isabel line by Castlefields; before taking the Beakonside cycle path, all the way to the fire station! Apart from the very odd section, the whole ride is road free, and I love it. Don't know how far it is, but did it in just under 25 minutes this am, which is my pb.

Shoes, post up in this thread if you are hitting the chase anytime soon and i'd be happy to show you about some of the unoffical trails that are dotted about the place.

Just a note shoes... when you RTFM and it warns you to "be careful of the hydro disc brakes" take heed... seriously the first time I pulled the lever I nearly went arse over.....

Wise to. Find a hill, ride down with brakes partially on to heat up the pads, ride back up 30 secs minimum, repeat ~8-10 times.

Have you seen the new cycle path going North from Beaconside for about 30 yards up Marston Lane? Is there a point to that? Am I missing something?..
