Hi all

I am off for a few ales over the weekend in town. Where do everyone Recommend for a decent ale? Anyone know of any pubs doing a beer festival?

Cheers

Festival at The Sun I believe. Did I hear Mr Holt is performing? Anyone?
Derek Holt doing his Floyd Pink bit at a festival in Dunston on Saturday. Knew he was somewhere about this week-end.

It is, indeed, getting to the point where you cannot go out without being offered at least one decent ale - if not more - lucky we are.

Went into Chambers last night, only the second time i've been in.

Cost me £16.60 for a pint of Haka, a pint of Staropramen, a rose wine and a white wine spritzer....

Either I got a) the bar man ripped me off, b)this pub is stupidly expensive or c) I haven't been out for so long and prices have gone up a lot...???

Anyone care to advise because at this rate i'll not be going back in there again.

C) It was the wine! Always expensive unless it's dodgy. It is always cheaper to buy a bottle of wine.

Sorry I should of said more cost effective to buy a bottle of wine if your out for a few, plus less queuing at the bar!

Cheers darben.... will remember that in future.

The problem is it was only one quick drink before our meal booking, and with one wanting white and one wanting rose, couldn't do a bottle....

Will steer clear of Chambers in future then, its a shame as its a nice place but the wife is hardly a wine specialist and would have been happy with the cheap stuff. Obviously they don't do it....

Over £5 a glass is craziness in Stafford for christ sake, ok if people order a special brand and want the premium stuff but this was literally just ordered as white / rose.

Talking about price of wine, £6.60 for a glass of rose at the Moat House Acton Trussel, I know you expect to pay more at places like that but come on.

I would have said £6.58

To be fair to Chambers I think wine is expensive in general, decent wine is always more expensive. Personally I'd rather have something else than drink a naff wine.

Sadly the choice is generally poor, but a vodka with soda & cranberry juice might be an alternative option if she likes dry tasting drinks & the bar can cope, which is rare.
