Destruction of Doxey Marshes.

That's because, in all likelihood, the council preventing on this are twats. Do we have names of those involved in the vote?
I'm going to say it again.
If one of the most senior officers at Stafford Council is also a director of the rugby club then can you be surprised these plans are being allowed ?
And the planning officer who says SWT have a 'conflict of interest' - that's rich. One of your bosses has more than a 'conflict of interest.'
What's the ward councillor doing about it? Is he / she FOR or AGAINST?

I almost metaphorically fell off my chair when i read that - it is no wonder that SWT were so incensed by it - that one pictured the poor chap writing it with a, perhaps slightly less metaphorical, gun to his head.

Never mind the quality, feel the chutzpah.

...

Therefore, as Natural England have advised Stafford Borough Council to have strong regard to the comments of Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, the Borough Council would, if it went against such advice/comments, leave itself wide open to a legal challenge.
An interesting aspect of this is the SWT response re fungi - they state that the nature of recording of such an erratic flora as fungi is such that it would take upwards of three years to properly assess how mush room they take up, so it would presumably take the same amount of time to assess the potential impact of the development of the site on the fungal population. If a legal challenge was mounted, it could potentially take 3+ years before it even came back under consideration.

It seems unlikely that the Rugby Club would be willing to wait that long to resubmit their plan for scrutiny and start it all over again.

Perhaps they might find somewhere else in the interim.

There is a considerable body of opinion on the internet on the subject of:

light pollution killing migrating birds

and, I'm not entirely sure that flood lighting to two pitches is going to do
much for those birds which make Doxey their temporary home.

Just wondered if someone might like to follow this up.

Cheers....Ecker.

Enjoyed the protest march, met some lovely like minded people and had the chance to view the land we'll be losing. The mind boogles how anyone can think it's an acceptable intrusion on to the SSSI. The scale of the place is massive and will completely ruin the view from the Isabel trail across the Marshes before we even consider the impact on resident wildlife flora and fauna.

I've yet to hear a serious reasonable argument about why the Rugby club has to have this particular site. All I hear is how it will be good for the community. Surely it would be good for the commnity whereever it is sited?? I do wonder how much money they wil make from hosting wedding receptions by using the backdrop of the marshes they are trying so hard to destroy. Very angry I am!!!

Give them a new club, but not here.

Keep objecting on the council's website.

I spent ages typing out a comment to submit but my session timed out. I am going into town tomorrow so I will go into SBC offices and ask if I can make a written objection - rather pissed off and stressed out now...

Anyway, it was some shizzle about it affecting biodiversity and people's enjoyment of the area, walking in open green spaces benefiting mental and physical health as well as being important for contemplation and artistic inspiration.
