M&S are looking at opening a bigger store too.

... it won't be benefiting people who don't shop there. It's not money being spent on the community.
How much truth is there in the oft quoted claim that it brings people into town who will visit other establishments and is therefore good for the well-being of the town in general? I tend to be a bit sceptical of such puffery but i dare say there is a grain of truth in it.

I suppose it also benefits those who end up working there, after a fashion.

It's great if you're a business owner. But more people going into the town means more traffic, busier car parks and the likelihood of car park charges rising.

I champion the online shopping service - no heavy bags, no queueing, no traffic jams. Tesco delivery people are much more helpful than those of Asda. Obviously fresh food still has to be shopped for but it isn't necessary to go to the Supermarkets for that.

Tesco currently have over half of the home delivery business in the UK , now this is disproportionate to their market share and even more disproportianate is the number of customers over 60 using this service.....

So long as you don't get strange substitutions. Someone ordered vegetarian sausages and they were substituted with meat sausages.

Also, the vans drive way too fast and dangerously in my experience.

The first time I spotted him I actually thought that he was a shoplifter. Excellent cover...
Isn't it a rule that all store tec's must look a "bit chavvy" to blend in ?
Even in Knightsbridge?

Lidl is great for the continental stuff, plus some stuff there is just brilliantly cheap. One of the favourites for the GF and I is the Vegetable crisps, so much cheaper than any of the Big 4/5.

Next time I'm in there, I'll keep my eye out for the detective.

There's loads of research, and would take you all of 10 seconds to find using Google. Try Standing Advisory Committee for Trunk Road Assessment for starters, but there's other sources too. Travel demand has gone up and up over time, i.e people are travelling in their cars further and more often.
Yeah, and it all seems to stem from the same two original quango reports. How unusual.

The SACTRA research is good, and if you'd done your homework then you'd know that SACTRA is essentially pro road building and set up under a pro road building government. And even they couldn't avoid acknowledging the facts around traffic generation. Like I said, there's other sources too which aren't difficult to find.

Basically you haven't found any sound evidence to support your theory.
