Little update here as i'm back on the case...

SGS came around and quoted me - lovely bloke, very friendly. He explained to me the differences between C and A grade windows but said he could do A-grade if I wanted which I did. Anyway the quote came back and was a good sight cheaper than target, but I was also a lot more impressed with attitude of the SGS guy. Don't get me wrong the Target guy was nice but didn't even show me a sample of the windows, it was like he was in a rush to get off to a bigger and better job.... so needless to say, at the moment SGS are top of my list with the best price and the best feel about them.

Still hoping to get a couple more quotes though just to finally satisfy myself, so will be back to update, but I certainly won't be going with Target any more at almost a third more expensive for very similar product.

Hi, just had a very good quote from Valley windows based in Rugeley. nice man comes out and very friendly service. has a father and son who do the fitting and appear to be very professional. my uncle has used them and was very pleased hence his recommendation to me. Stafford UPVC quote £2500 more than this one!!!
Just wanted to say thanks for this recommendation... this guy has been round to quote tonight and really knows his onions. Picked up that some of my windows would need toughened glass when none of the other companies have (or certainly never mentioned it).

I need to compare his quote to the others, but really hope his is the best because i'm very impressed.

for all my windows which includes two bay windows
Target (£4900 for bog standard white windows, A grade though, £5500 with the wood grain look in white)
Classic windows (£5000 from what i remember, need to find quote out)
SGS (£3200!, C grade though)
StreetlyWindows (£9k including facias and soffits and A grade...i know!)

come good Winterwarmth!!
How do you find out about grades of windows?
Are they an industry standard?

Also - any idea if Classic Windows are still trading? Tried 2 different numbers today 335030 and 222011 and both were unobtainable.

Central windows are the ones for me , only a small firm but fitters are perfectionists to the nth degree. Reasonable as well

Sorry, not sure if it's good or bad practise to resurrect an old thread,

But anyway I was just wondering if anyone had some more recent experiences/recommendations for double glazing firms in the Stafford area. We obtained couple initial quotes last year and SGS were my top pick based on straight forward approach and a sensible quote. Couldn't go ahead with the quote at the time but in a position to get cracking this year and its 75% of the windows we're looking to replace including a Bay and French Doors so really want to pick the right firm.

Any suggestions or feedback on companies to avoid, would gratefully received

Thanks
Queenie

SGS have recently replaced two windows and a door for me. I've got to say I was very happy with them. This is the second time I've used them and, based on the two jobs they've done for me, I'd be more than happy to use them in the future.

Thanks for the suggestions. SGS are in the process of updating the quote for me, and I'll be getting on to glass and glazing to organise quote now.:)
