Simple question - How many people know the rules of using a roundabout? Slow down when approaching. Give way to traffic from your right. Not difficult is it? Having been taken off the road in the past, I wouldn't be surprised if it nearly happens every other month! I apply those rules and I really don't see what is difficult, apart from maybe having to lift your hands up and wonder which one should have the L or R written on it! PFFTT!!
Just venting as I was missed by about six foot this morning near the station. On the island, about to turn right using the island, she still kept coming..........Nearly closed my eyes and waited for the bang!

Mini roundabouts have never really got into the psyche round here. People still 'see' the old markings, even from before they were driving.

I once tried to explain to somebody the simple order of priority that would (should) be followed by four cars all arriving here at the same time. Even if you do know how it should be done, it just isn't worth the risk....

If, for example, 4 cars meet at the mini-roundabout near to Stafford Gaol, they arrive all at the same time, from 3 main roads and one side-street, all want to turn right, who should go round the roundabout 1st?? Who has priority?? Or is it time for a coin toss, best of three?

In that case it's a matter of initiative. In the case of the entrances to the Hough, the ways in have no give way lines, so they have ultimate priority over the other three - the remaining three should then give priority to the right - but don't trust 'em to, is my advice...

If you mean the one by the Four Crosses, there can only be three vehicles arriving, Marston Road is one way away from the roundabout and Lloyd Street isn't really on it directly.

There was a real four-way one at Sandon Road / Corporation Street once - it didn't last long as it seemed too "complicated" for people to cope with...

..so, we have the endless waits at the lights instead.

The Hough is merely a pension pot parade and devoid of any laws other than Causing an Affray

Hough
Affray

Hough
Affray

Is the sound the locals make lifting parked cars from in front of their driveways.

THE funniest mini roundabout ( u turns allowed if you clear all the white paint ) is the one at the entrance to the Wilko car park.

You can proceed without caution at any time as everyone else will be polarised by confusion

Part of the (current) Chell Road merging issues may be due to the temporary signage on Gaol Square, as seen when approaching from Gaol Road, which can be taken to indicate that the inside lane on Chell Road is coned off, when the inside lane on Gaol Square northbound is the real subject of the signs.

Anybody non-local or a person who hasn't had a daily remapping of the current cone situation could easily be driven into the outside lane for no real reason.

If all drivers reversed up Chell Road from the roundabout that would work and then turned around at Broad Eye.

Sorted

Malta has an interesting take on roundabouts, you have right of way on to the roundabout but are then supposed to give way to approaching traffic. It took me a few days to work this out as there were no markings on the road to suggest this was the preferred option. Strangely I had more near misses using the Maltese method than I did before.

The cones on the roundabout are also too far forward on the roundabout which makes it more difficult to drive into the right hand lane of Chell Road from the roundabout without someone in the inside left hand lane cutting you up. The cones were moved further forward last week I think.

That bloody roundabout. If you're approaching from Browning Street you can't see a damn thing coming from Gaol Road.
