Presumably the fact Audi are one of the most popular fleet cars leading to there being many of them on the road sways the figure somewhat.

I can't help but feel that cars have got bigger and spaces have got smaller over the years. It's probably not true but it certainly feels like it.

I'm sure that cars have generally got wider, though I suspect that spaces are about the same size.

Doors probably tend to be a bit longer, too, as windscreens slope much more than they used to..

And you just can't see the corners of a car these days....

..even those that actually have corners..

My new 'prestige''* german car is finally due to make it here from the fuherland tomorrow, I shall report back on how it has affected my ability to park and indicate :p

*I know Audi drivers are considered to be the new BMW drivers, but I do not personally consider Audi a prestige brand so it may have no effect on me.
I think you may find that you develop a tendency to believe that the road network is your own personal property and that your daylight running lights should act like a laser beam, scattering all forms of inferior life (read everyone else) out of your way.

I see. Having owned a couple of BMWs historically I can't remember that happening.

I do recall taking the ability to overtake those who are driving far too slow for granted, now I have to drive an eco-hippy diesel Ford and can barely overtake cyclists safely let alone anything else and I really miss the power provided by the BMW. The power also reduced the required pulling out gap which easily made up for the people driving non-german vehicles not letting you out of junctions.

Hopefully this ability will return with the Audi although I'm not holding my breath.

Without any doubt cars are now wider whislt the spaces have remained the same size. Larger spaces are definitely required but will never happen as car parks would lose revenue from the "lost" spaces.

I also think that spaces angled at 45 degrees (or similar) would help parking rather than 90 degree angled spaces. When I went to Florida a few years ago, nearly all spaces were angled rather than square on and it was far easier parking and also getting in and out of the car. I can imagine some burke trying to reverse into an angled space though.

I let "prestige" German cars out at junctions. It's safer for them to be in front of you than behind. ;)

Ability to indicate in a prestige German car boils down to whether the indicators were ordered as an optional extra to begin with....

I nearly had an accident last night due to the careless driving of a lady in a 4x4 BMW. I was in the left hand lane on the Eccleshall Road at the Greyfriars roundabout turning right towards Stafford town centre. She was in the right hand lane turning right. As we are about to come off the roundabout she switches into the left hand land almost sending me into the railings by the Waggon and Horses. She had a passenger in the left hand side of the car who could have been injured had we collided. I followed her up the Sandon Road and got out of the car to speak to her when she pulled up at the lights. She was completely oblivious and unapologetic. Her response was "Well I didn't hit you did I?" at which point I told her I was doing her a favour by avoiding a future accident.

There's just been a coming-together of a truck and a car entering the roundabout there from Eccleshall Road. Just a bit of dentage, by the look of it...

Looking at the Audi options price list it really doesn't surprise me that no-one specs them. I imagine the same applies to BMW etc.

When I ordered this new car, I was surprised to see that if I wanted floor mats I'd have to pay an extra £80.

Firstly £80 for floor mats? Shit the bed!
Secondly a new car which doesn't come with floor mats even though it costs £lol.... Shit the bed!

Basil beware - if you're buying a new car do please check what it comes with - you might find that somethings like floormats, ashtrays and interior lights do not come as standard.

My genuine OEM tailored floor-mats were a fiver - from the boot sale.

My ash-tray is (unused) in the tool-roll inside the (full-size alloy) spare wheel, ready to be put back in place one day - the space is currently being used for a small tape-measure and other useful bits.

Got the new car today - it's already at Audi having the indicator stalk removed, turns out it's standard equipment on the trim level I have.

I have often considered that Audi drivers should have their indicator stalks stowed unobtrusively about their person, in the unlikely event of them ever wanting to use it.
