Just had a look round you tube for it, I can't find any thing, but there's quite a few "urban explorer" low quality films of the site from around 2008 and 2009, the deterioration is striking as you go from early to late films.

A couple of the better ones if anyones interested:

I also had a look and could find nothing plausible that was recent enough. I was surprised by just how identifiable some of the 'explorers' were, though.

Certainly looked different without a breathing apparatus and fire kit on!!! Though that was at least 20 months ago!

I used to live very close to it when I was a child and we went round it quite alot, we used to play tig type games round it if I'm being honest. It never used to be fenced off at all and when it was it wasn't done very well.
Thinking back some of the stuff we got up to in there was really dangerous, I remember crawling along the ridge of the roof at one point and we also used to go up to the top of the brick tower with that metal box on top. Was great fun though

Hello everyone this is my first post on here . I am an Urban Explorer from near to Stafford and i have a right interest in St George's . Its really terrible what has happened to the place and i really hope something can be done to save it before its gone forever . When i heard that there had been a big fire i had to take a trip down to see how bad it is now and thought i would share some of the pictures i took .

This one is a before and after , in the same spot ......

Explorers do not have to hide there faces as its not against the law if you are not stealing or vandalizing .

Take nothing but Photos and leave nothing but footprints :D

Great photos Rusty - it really is quite an extraordinary building isn't it? Some of those interior shots look amazing - not sure it looks the safest of places to be exploring, mind.

Welcome to the forum. :)

Cheers Withnail glad you like them , yeah the place really is an awesome building and getting in such a sorry state . I hope they manage to save at least some of it . It really is one of a kind compared to other Victorian Asylums .

And like you say not one of the safest :D

I had the wonderful privelidge of working in that building,I get so upset when I see pictures of the old place. It's criminal how it was allowed to fall into such a state. There's so many photos to be found of other asylums on the tinternet, personally I think Cane Hill ranks alongside St.Georges for architecture. Sadly just like Stafford,it fell victim to arsonists.

Interesting photos, and I'm glad that it's being documented, However, I feel that the HDR used on them doesn't do them any favours as pure documentary photos,
I'm not criticizing the pics themselves, (I love HDR and use it myself) but feel that it takes away some of the reality and detail that is in the original photos
and that it should just be used for the pics that get put up on the wall or in albums.

But apart from that, welcome to the forum Rusty, wonderful first post,I hope to see many more from you.

Good thinking, there. It would be nice to have some quality records of it before it's all gone.

Hospitals and military sites seem to be the most popular for this activity, possibly not just because of their size, but because they are usually more isolated from their surroundings.

There's some excellent stuff on RAF Chilmark
