Firework show

Now all you guys like fireworks - right? Especially those that are practically free.....

Well over the past few years myself and my compadres been putting on a leetle fireworks display of our own around the beginning of November.

Following a VERY successful trip to China to view firework construction, and buy a few goodies, last years show was very well received.

Well we're doing it again this year, and as usual are aiming to go bigger, better and brighter than ever before, and all you nice friends of the forum are welcome.

The date will be Friday the 9th of November.

The place is the "Project Paintball" site, just south of town.

Whilst we're not charging for this very exclusive opprtunity [friends are always welcome!] we will be taking up a collection for a local charity [Penkridge youth football - more details later], which I'd heartily encourage you to dig deep for.

We'll be firing at about 7:30 sharp. Be there at 7pm to mingle and be seen.

Yay nicely

Having been to last years extravaganza I would heartily recommend this ! Excellent display lots of big bangs and cries of "look at the hang time on that "! ( you would have to be a fireworx enthusiast to get that !)

Seriously tho folks the dispaly is well worth a reasonable non rip off amount based "contribution" type collection for an excellent display which I would say is more or less guaranteed! would be really excellent if a nice big turn out lots of adults and kids with smiling faces on a cold November evening ..We will certainly be there again I hope !

Oh yes might sound obvious but no bar facilities ! so make sure you bring your own respective winter warmers !

We went to this last year too, and I can honestly say it was the best display I've ever seen....ever!

edit: Blimey Mr Hat...i've just read your blog about visiting China. Sounds like you had a great time, and the effort you put into the display certainly shows. Last year we started off at Project Paintball, then Sofa drove us up to the Castle where we watched the whole of Stafford lit up. Top stuff!

yeah, the display last year was a right touch.. i was a bit dubious about it - the cynic in me was giving it the usual "pff - fireworks  " - but it seriously took my breath away! good time had by all.. quite a few forumites there, if i remember rightly.. of course, this was back when the forum was mere weeks old!

Thanks for the kind words guys. Trust me on this - We never forget that without an appreciative audience we'd just be three loons in a field.

It's getting kinda hard to improve on our results, but we are certainly going to try. We had to go "electric" [shades of BobDylan eh?] last year to achieve the results. This year we are trialling a home-brewed, hand coded digital system, which should mean we can pull off some pretty accurately timed stuff.

Incidentally I should make clear that we don't do this stuff for a living. We are amateurs with professional standards to a man. Put bluntly, we like to make very dangerous stuff happen very safely in an utterly beautiful way.

PS: Glad you liked the china blog Andreas. It's certainly a country worth visiting, and they are the undisputed masters of awesome pyro.

Last year's show was extraordinary! Good luck to you, Mr the Hat, if you are to make 2007's display even better! (knowing you and your pyro-partner I am sure that it will only get more and more spectacular)

If I was stupid enough to walk to said site, how would I get there? Is it a case of "follow the A449 and you'll see it"?

Project Paintball is only a few hundred metres this side of Penkridge, so that would be quite a walk!

In that case, I may consider getting the bus to Penkridge and walking from there... Anyway, if I get completely wankered before I go it'll be fine. =D

There are a couple of bus stops actually on the A449 between dunston and penkridge. Not sure exactly how close, but closer than walking from penkridge village centre.

Cool... I might just get the bus to Penkridge to work out the bus route and where I'm going. Although I have a strange affection for this town, sometimes it's nice to get away. =)

So once I actually find this Project Paintball place, where do I go?

Not sure if the bus stops anywhere close, my brother works there and he bikes it mostly.

Its a dirt track from the main road, follow it straight round to the site. From what i hear, its always spectacular!

A proffessional outfit was trying out some pyro - there were adverts round town. Mr. Hat can give more details if he comes back on - something about a 22inch girth or something!

Practicing my 'Oooh' and 'Aahhhh's right now!

Something for future consideration. My attendance is always garanteed if fireworks do is accompanied by opportunity to purchase a jacket spud for reasonable price complete with beans or somesuch - nice warming fodder.

Haven't come across this lately, but spuds are traditional accompaniment to fireworks where I'm originally from (the deep, dark region of the shandy drinking southern softie).

Get the Wolverhampton bus No 76 and ask for the paintball place. The place is just after a big layby on the right after Dunston.

Then just walk down the lane and you really can't miss it!

Thanks, would be really helpful if someone who knows where it is would meet me at the bus stop (either end) and walk me there whilst holding onto my hand tightly so I don't get lost...
