There is a campaign on 38 degrees to save the Staffordshire countryside. (I hope these links work)
https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/save-staffordshire-countryside-aonb

I got an email from Paul Woodhead who started the campaign. As well as a request to share the campaign on social media it contains the following info and links ...

Dear friends,

The fate of our Countryside hangs in the balance as Staffordshire County Council have now released their proposals to bring forward to the Scrutiny Committee meeting on the 12th October.

I attach the link to the papers here and encourage you to have a look through what is presented.

County Papers

Please note this papers also include further steps to dismantle our library service in the County!

It is interesting that further information is given out through a press release taken up through the links below, amongst others, which I cannot see in the papers presented for scrutiny. Although at this stage I have not read the papers in full yet. This includes excluding some of the sites identified in the original proposals which now will be considered for sale under a different consultation - this goes completely against the directive of the select committee when it met in September where they were absolutely crystal clear that NO LAND SHOULD BE SOLD AT ALL.

We have had a significant impact on this process to date and would ask that you continue to spread the word by sharing our petition through social media.

I will write again soon with my thoughts as to the information supplied after careful consideration in a few days

Any mass direct action to be planned will be focused on the cabinet meeting 10am Wednesday 21st October details to follow

"SAVE STAFFORDSHIRE COUNTRYSIDE & AONB" - this issue means a lot to me and I really appreciate your support.

Full County Council Debate

Date & Time: Thursday, 10 December 2015 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Place: Staffordshire County Council, 1 Martin Street, Stafford, ST16 2LP

I am working on securing a full council debate of the countryside estate review. Our campaign has secured over 11,500 signatures and Staffordshire County Council has a scheme to recognise any petition with over 5,000 Staffordshire resident signatures.

Thursday 10th December 2015 commencing meeting starts at 10am, protest outside from 9am

I am presenting our petition for validation of the number of Staffordshire residents, which it does. Please note this does not conclude the petition signing which will be formaly presented later in the consultation, so please continue to share and care.

This is not confirmed yet but wanted to give you as much notice as possible as I see no reason this cannot happen.

Please come along to support the debate in which I have the right to a statement of no longer than 5 minutes, a response by the cabinet member Councillor Mark Winnington followed by a full council debate

Your support of this event is very much appreciated. RSVP

A post today from 38 Degrees. (I hope that thie is the right thread!) -
Dear Friends,

Today has been a very good day! The councillors voted unanimously to accept our petition, and voted to never sell the Staffordshire Countryside and Green Spaces to private investors.

Thank you for your continued support and raising the profile our this important issue

This is by no means the end of the campaign as we seek to hold councillors to their word through the consultation and the proposals that they present. The devil is in the detail as we need to see how they intend to deliver over £600,000 annual cuts to the Countryside by 2020 and the role of private business in our Countryside management with Amey indicated to be maintaining footpaths. Both of these are hidden in the Council papers appendix to the Medium Term Financial Strategy.
