But those of us stuck in an office with limited download opportunities will miss all the fun and not know what the rest of you are on about in some thread where you mention the chat room - just like I've no idea about the youtube discusions but more so.

It would make no difference to you then. You'd still get the forum postings that you get now, anyway, if you're in an office, shouldn't you be working :better:

But people would be more inclined to put the trivialities and daft observations etc. that relieve my work stress (whilst others go off for a fag) in the chat room and I would miss them

Imagine the fun to be had out of office hours - a quick check on the chat room to see if anyone fancies a cheeky pint...

jumping in too quick, I voted yes, but I have to agree with doc, I would miss to much of the chat to make it worth joining in, and being entirely selfish, I like think my thoughts out before posting anything, saves a lot of misunderstanding.

can you change my vote please admin?

Don't know what you mean by 'miss too much of the chat', you'd just enter and say hi and take it from there, there would be much more chat and you will probably find you and others will be in here for much longer and that the 'chat room' would get busy. Even if it's not busy, I bet you would find yourself chatting with whoever was in.

I used to host a chatroom on Winmx for family & friends. Could always start one of those up, do some file sharing as well. Don't use Winmx now though, using DC++ & that has chat hubs. If my internet connection was stable I might of set one up and posted details on here.

It must be one of those day/night s.

If i had have voted it would probably have been 'no' - but what with the gripes about 'nonsense posts' and all - whatever happened to this idea Admin?

One of the main complaints levelled at The Forum, and one of the main reasons cited by lurkers & newbies for not posting, is that sometimes it feels too cliquey round here; all the in-jokes, references to posts-gone-by, etc. Now, this is to be expected of any tight-knit community, and isn't necessarily a bad thing (to a point), but it can make it hard for the less confident user to jump in.

I think a chat-room would only make this worse, unfortunately. As Doctor, age'd parent, et al have said, most people can't spend all day every day on here, and prefer to just pop on once a day to browse through all the new posts. As it stands, some of these posts can be, shall we say, 'oblique', but if there was a chat-room this would get even worse, with people making references to chats they had had amongst only a few users, etc.

In addition, there are a million other things that The Forum desperately needs that are beyond my technical ability, so a chat room would not be a priority even if it was appropriate, I'm afraid!
