As Withnail says, one can still edit one's posts, but only within the first 5 minutes (to correct any spelling mistakes, etc.). I had to implement this, as some people were posting one thing, generating a lot of responses, then editing the original post so it said something different.
Also, I have had the Police knocking on my door before now as a result of something someone has posted, and I was unable to provide them with evidence as that person had since edited their post (see

I can extend the 'time to edit' period, but I thought 5 minutes would be plenty for one to spot any spelling/grammatical errors that needed to be fixed. Any change to the original post beyond that would really be classed as an
update to the subject in hand, which would warrant a further post to the thread really, rather than an edit of the original message.
