How Much Do You Pay for a Haircut?

Hello!

I've always paid between £15 - £20 at local independent hairdressers and been super chuffed!

However since moving and checking out the local chop shops they seem to be sooo expensive (or am I just being a cheapass?)

Withing walking distance I have a Reiss - which seems to be a chain, it was completely dead and by the looks on the staffs faces they seemed to be planning suicide-en-mass - it was dreadful! And they would charge me £32 for the privilege!

Also local is the 'Extreme Cutting House' which sounds really really scary! However upon further investigation it seem the most extreme they get is a bit more purple in your purple rinse... Again expensive at £38!

How much do you pay? Am I being unreasonable?

Thankyou xxx

I paid £40 for a cut, wash and blow dry at Supercuts in the Guildhall about 4yrs ago. My hair at the time, was longer than it is now, I could quite easily sit on it and keep the backs of my knees warm. I walked out of there with the wind whistling past my lugholes, with nothing to stop it. I was heartbroken. Paid the money, smiled at the girl, made all the usual stupid faces you do when in reality all you want to do is rag her scrawny neck and scream at her for destroying pretty much the only nice thing about yourself. In short - don't go to Supercuts!
On the other hand, I paid for the d-i-l to go to Pelo last year. For £30 she had a lovely cut/wash/blowdry etc. Worth every penny imo.
I haven't been near a hairdressers since the disaster, for a box of cream cakes and a mug or two of tea, I get my sister to trim the tiniest amount off the ends for me.

I'm in dire need of a mow as well, but times are hard so I keep putting it off. Generally, around £30 for Toni & Guy or Francesco's, but I'm pretty sure the independents are cheaper.
One of the best value cuts ever was in a small town in West Wales a couple of years ago: £7.50, a cuppa and the entertaining company of several little old Welsh ladies, and highly scurrilous local gossip about the antics of the rugby club boyoes.
But as we all know, female hair is trickier to deal with than male hair, so we always end up paying about three times more than a chap. Years ago I had a female colleague who liked a no-nonsense short back and sides, and used to spit tacks about going to the barbers and always being charged more than a man for exactly the same cut.

I just think its so expensive! £40 - and your supposed to go every 6 weeks?! My maths fails me but that's a lot a year!

I'm a big Lush fan and hate it when they wash my hair with chemical crap and rub gloopy shit in it-

I always wash it as soon as I'm released from the plastic straitjacket-vest-thing!

There is a Tony and Guy a 5 min train ride away - but I'm always worried I'm going to come out with something cutting edge and radical - I just want a trim!

This has made me think about the difference between a barber and a hair stylist ?

In the 70's as a student I got my hair cut regularly by apprentice barbers in London.
Warm towels, friction rub and pomade!
Also took advantage of free shaves.

Up until last year Mrs T used to go to her fave hairdressers in Cheltenham once a month to have hers done. So add petrol, parking and lunch. It's a daft old game.

I have only vaguely flicked through these comments because I want to be blissfully unaware how much my Wife's haircuts cost because I'll be saying HOW MUCH1
Personally the going rate for a gents haircut in Rugeley is £7 whilst it's around £11-12 around Stafford.
