Enjoying a drop of red.
Now out of stock. Hardly surprising though at that price. I'd have bagged one if I could have :(

I just upped the RAM to 8Gb on mine, turns out I really didn't need to as even with caching it only used 2.5Gb! I may still play with virtual servers though, so it'll be useful.

I shall up the RAM to 4gb, that should be more than enough for me. Bigger hard drives will also be the order of the day, when a suitable offer comes along.

I have the 2Gb of ECC RAM I've just removed from mine, I got 2x4Gb and there is only 2 slots. Once I'm happy my rig is stable (it is so far, but wanna give it a few days) I'd let it go for a tenner?

It often comes back into stock, so nobody fear if you miss it.

We often use them with a few 3TB drives, RDX cartridges and a linux-based NAS OS. They make amazing backup devices and I'd always recommend them.

would i be better switching to one of these rather than using my own spare pc that i use as as plex server ?. would it manage the transcoding if required or am i better staying with what ive got?.
i realise power usage would be lower, however i dont usually leave the plex server on 24/7 anyway, only when needed.

I'd say it depends on what the PC is at the minute! This is the updated one from mine, so has a bit more grunt, but I'm not sure how much. A lot depends on the source file, and the output bitrate. The higher the source file bitrate the more work needed to transcode, and the higher the output bitrate likewise. If you took a 12Mb file 1080p and tried to put out a 6Mb 720p thats a lot of work, but if you start with a 6Mb 720p and want to drop it to 3Mb that will take less.

At least, I think thats how it works!

a lot of my files are 1080p at around anything from 6GB-12GB in size.
bitrate is usually high too.
ive no problems with streaming them to the roku's at the moment so ill prob stay as i am for now.

Are these servers good enough to leave turned on with no risk and to stream Plex around the house.
