Has anyone tried this? If so would you recommend it? And would you recommend a particular (local if possible) practitioner?

I didn't use hypnosis, but will be interested in how you get on with it..

When I gave up (6yrs ago), I used a drug called Champix which is available on prescription from your Drs - I would recommend it, (although I believe you shouldn't use it if you are depressed or suicidal as it will make things worse), I still haven't caved in, even though I live with a smoker - yay me :toot: although I do admit to sneaking up on unsuspecting smokers to sniff at them....

Good luck! :)

Yes, after smoking over 40 a day I had hypnosis in 1979 and it worked. Haven't touched one since. The bloke I had has long gone though, so can't recommend anyone to you. I had 'suggestive hypnosis' and was still aware of what was going on, and could have got myself out of it at anytime.

I was so convinced it wasn't going to work that I bought a packet of 20 B&H from the machine at work as I'd run out just before I went in my lunch hour ( I was chain smoking at work in those days, like the rest of my office). Thinking he might get me to crush them , took them all out except for a couple and left them in my desk before I went. Sure enough he told me to hand over the packet if I had truly stopped smoking, and me thinking "Ha ha, got another 16 back at work".... ...Got back in to my car and couldn't stand the smell as it reeked of the one I'd smoked driving there. Haven't been able to stand the smell of smoke ever since, and gave those remaining ones away to a work colleague

I started putting the money that I would have been spending on them away each day in a jar. Paid for a holiday ! :)

Good luck in giving up :)

My mum was a heavy and committed smoker, she had a mini stroke and this did not deter her. In 2002 she had hypnosis to give up smoking and hasn't touched one since.
I gave up in 2001, I was smoking 25-30 a day, I used zyban and thankfully haven't had one since.

Good luck.

Does it help in losing weight too?

There is a better method

Only shop after you have eaten a full meal

Never have snacks on show in the house/place of work

If at a place where food is on show always sit at least 1.2 meters away

( take a tape measure )

I find this fascinating! Don't you get any cravings at all? I still sometimes do, mostly if I see someone smoking in a car (which is really weird as I never smoked in the car!) but the smell isn't appealing anymore - fortunately the husband goes outside for a fag - & now the smell reminds me of rotting old potatoes :(

I don't get any cravings, infact didn't have any straight after either. The thought of smoking after getting back into the car that day and feeling sick with it reeking of smoke put me off even trying one again (part of the treatment was "You will feel sick if you have a cigarette" . Didn't mention feeling sick when just the smelling it though.) Can't stand it now when people walk past with one.

The one thing that did get me at first though was what to do with my hands when in pubs, especially on my own waiting for the drinks to come back from the bar. So got a handful of elastic bands from work and would sit twiddling those through my fingers .And mint imperials in the car for long journeys. (Much to my dentists horror I still have mints in the car on long journeys now...)

I do still think of the bowl of cornflakes that were sat on the desk from the patient before. They must have been having treatment for an eating disorder....being lunchtime I was starving and eyeing them up ..:D

@shoes AND ANY SMOKERS

I had been a smoker for a while and like most smokers I wanted to stop.

1) I was worried about my health.

2) I was worried about my image. I was embarrassed to be a smoker.

The book that I read makes you question why you want to smoke and it removes the fear of stopping.

After reading it, I have never wanted to smoke, .

I have not even had a whiff or wanted one. NOT ONE.

Some ex smokers like to be near other smokers to get a whiff because they still feel that they are missing out by not smoking.
After reading the book you will PITY other smokers, not envy them.

Honestly, I cant praise this book enough.
It made me stop instantly, no withdrawal, nothing, easy..

THE BOOK HAS A 90% SUCCESS RATE.

If you smoke. buy the book and read it to the end (the author will initially get on your nerves so persevere) follow theinstructions to the end and you have a 90% chance of not ever smoking again.

It works on a self hynosis type of way.

I stopped for a bet, won a pint of carling. I think I'd already realised I had no reason to smoke though so the battle was half won before I started.

Can't be many occasions when a pint of Carling serves as an incentive for anything!

The original bet was to stop drinking for my NY resolution, oh how we laughed at the idea! Then the barmaid who was a mate said she was going to quit for NY, and we bet each other a pint that the other would fail first. I turned up to the pub NY day and she was sat at the bar with a fag already. I claimed my pint, and politely refused the offer of a fag as I didn't smoke anymore :p

Luckily since I stopped smoking my taste buds came back, and I am now free of the evil Carling as well!
