Seriously, I can't decide if this was staged or they really did believe what was happening? Apparently she's been awarded $6m in damages, and the guy involved got 5 years.

HMRC Fiasco

Obviously everyone knows about this, but one bit really caught my eye.

The Conservatives say HM Revenue and Customs declined the request in March to remove bank details from any information sent to the National Audit Office as it would be "too costly and too complicated".

Shadow chief secretary to the Treasury Philip Hammond said: "It was made clear the Revenue would not be able to make it available in that form because it would involve an additional payment to an IT firm."
So not only are they incompetent, a simple SELECT statement would have removed all bank details, but they are also not in control of the information - they have to pay an outside firm to manage it. I could have done this in a standard one hour visit, charged them the usual £40 and all would be fine. I wonder how much they have to pay this outside firm to do everything for them? I can't believe nobody is capable of writing a basic SQL statement in a government body that large, and they wonder why we don't trust them on the ID card front :(

We're now looking for a new actor to play Jack in Jack and the Beanstalk
Haven't they ever heard of an understudy? Or do budget cuts mean they can't afford one?

"Juries in rape trials are to be given information about the way an attack can affect a victim's behaviour - in an attempt to increase conviction rates."

Isn't false consensus bias a terrible thing? Still, I find the second half of this sentence distinctly worrying; I would be much happier if it said "in an attempt to improve the judicial procedure" or something similar.

As found over at the BBC, apparently a man walked into a police station on Saturday after being missing for 5 years. He says he has no memory of where he has been. I'm suprised in this day and age that is possible, and can only presume he found work with illegal immigrants. He must have had a job, or how else could he eat. He couldn't use his bank account, or NI number. Not sure if his passport would have flagged up if used?

Then over at yahoo it says his wife mysteriously upped and left britain in the last few weeks. House sold, no forwarding address left. Anyone else find this slightly suspicious?
