For $DEITY's sake, what the hell is *wrong* with these people?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20071115/wl_asia_afp/lifestyleaustraliachristmasoffbeat

SYDNEY (AFP) - Santas in Australia's largest city have been told not to use Father Christmas's traditional "ho ho ho" greeting because it may be offensive to women, it was reported Thursday.
Sydney's Santa Clauses have instead been instructed to say "ha ha ha" instead, the Daily Telegraph reported.
One disgruntled Santa told the newspaper a recruitment firm warned him not to use "ho ho ho" because it could frighten children and was too close to "ho", a US slang term for prostitute.
"Gimme a break," said Julie Gale, who runs the campaign against sexualising children called Kids Free 2B Kids.
"We are talking about little kids who do not understand that "ho, ho, ho" has any other connotation and nor should they," she told the Telegraph.
"Leave Santa alone."
A local spokesman for the US-based Westaff recruitment firm said it was "misleading" to say the company had banned Santa's traditional greeting and it was being left up to the discretion of the individual Santa himself.

Some moron from Wookie's link said:
"I phoned Camelot and they fobbed me off with some story that -6 is higher - not lower - than -8 but I'm not having it.

"I think Camelot are giving people the wrong impression - the card doesn't say to look for a colder or warmer temperature, it says to look for a higher or lower number. Six is a lower number than 8. Imagine how many people have been misled."
good grief :gonk:

am actually feeling quite sad about the state of some people. the evidence is there in front of them, they've been told the facts and still they believe in themselves so much they they are completley blind to the world around them and they have now made an absolute arse of themselves in the local rag. not to mention being 23(?) years old and not even understanding the concept of minus numbers. what is going on? god help us all, its 2007/2008 and we still have people........... hang on, a rant is comming on. sorry, somtimes i just despair when i look around and see us as a species..................

I must confess, when I heard about the scratchcard I thought it would probably catch me too, not because I don't understand the concept of negative numbers, but because I would've misidentified the negative sign as a security placeholder used for single-digit numbers. There's no excuse for the klutz in Wookie's link, though. :(

Just saw that one. I wouldn't pay that much anyway, I'd stay at home. Even the bird is pushing it at £2.80 for a cider, if it tops £3 I'm seriously cutting down my nights out.

Was £1.80 a pint at the uni bar on saturday, and £1.30 for Tequila. Admittedly we paid £5 to get in, but we drank enough to even that out!

Seriously, I can't decide if this was staged or they really did believe what was happening? Apparently she's been awarded $6m in damages, and the guy involved got 5 years.
