Incident by Stafford gaol?

^ What he said. Out of character or not, if they did it they shouldn't be allowed on the streets. I'm sure if this had happened to someone you knew you'd feel the same, although physically he may recover (still unknown AFAIK) the mental issues this sort of thing brings will be with him for life.

With all due respect Ashking your post would have been perfectly reasonable without the immature quip at the end. Being immature around here is my job :P

That being said, AshKing92, this crime is of the most heinous variety, so if your friends are indeed guilty, do not expect any sympathy, regardless of how "out of character" it was!
I agree with what you are saying, as I was initially appalled when I found out what they had done, although it is innocent until proven guilty. And as for shoes, I am 17 year old A Level student so I am not as thick as you may have misjudged me as.

Very true! We will all have to see how this unfortunate story ends. Thank you to everyone for bearing John Marwood's advice in mind, as well.

i would re-evaluate your peerage if you want to do anything with your a-levels, regardless of whether these boys did comit this crime they're hardly role models for a prosperous future.

I hope one of your a levels isn't english!

Well i am planning on going to university when i finish, which would make me the first person in my family to go, and finally get out of this s**t hole of a town.
and no they may not be role models but one of them was actually a good lad, so i don't know what happened.

Good for you, stick at it! It looks like I owe you an apology for the initial insult (everyone around here will tell you i'm not normally so judgemental :P ).

I wouldn't make you aim to get out of the town though, many have tried, few succeed, its like royston vasey lol

The only thing I will say, from personal experience, is be careful what company you keep as it can have a real bearing on what opportunities open up in front of you.

Accepted, Cheers :)

There is actually nothing on offer in this town, and growing up in what probably is the roughest area it's just shown me that if you don't work hard then you will end up here forever like the rest of the dole dossers who just sit on their arses getting high or drunk all day.

Many of my friends have been arrested on multiple occasions but they are good lads and it is actually hard trying to stay on the straight and narrow with limited amounts of money to go and enjoy life.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with the first bit of that. Going on to further education in your home town is not always the best idea. Especially if you've always lived in the same place. Other places may well often be largely the same, but they seem novel for a while, at least.

I came here from Lincoln and I've never managed to escape since. Having said that, when I came here at the age of 18 I had had 32 previous addresses.

Well go for it, you've got nothing to lose by trying anyway, and by the sounds of it you want out a lot - best of luck with the whole A level / uni / career prospects.

Out of interest where would you like to move to?

Welcome to the forum ashking92.

Nothing personal and just my opinion here, but I don't quite agree with this part of your statement. Life is what and how we all make it for ourselves regardless of income etc. I've spent 50% of my working age being broke / skint etc., but I've still managed to "enjoy life" and don't think that having "limited amounts of money" is any excuse for anybody to find it "hard to stay on the straight and narrow".

I once earned nearly a grand a week, more recently I just earn a low income balancing the bills and juggling the shopping... but I have a wife & kids, hot radiators, nice meals... and I'm a damn sight happier now than I was back then.

I respect what you mean that it can be boring sometimes having no money, but the courts don't accept a plea of "I was bored your honour" - if you catch my drift ;)

Agree with WMR... your life is what you make it and if these "good lads" have been arrested many times its because they made the choices albeit the wrong ones.

Ashking, you are the living proof (or certinly on the way to being) that coming from a rough area doesn't mean you have to live down to the level of the other scum around.... and good lucj to you mate.

I notice that one of the alleged perps in this case has a child... what sort of life is he set up for potentially having a dad in prison?

don't mention the blinds
I left the town late 70s after a youth spent on Highfields and headed for the smoke for 6mths and returned nearly 30yrs later, and look at me now........
