Well I've read through the main policies for all the parties I expect to stand in Stafford and, whilst some may put more than others into the NHS, I can't find one promising to restore Stafford Hospital's services, not even the National Health Action Party.

And none of them seem to want to be tough on crime.

I will vote but, sadly, it seems to be a choice of who I think is the least worst.

The wife and my female next door neighbour got a leaflet from Kate and I didn't...

Desperate to see that Lefroy doesn't get re-elected but yet to decide my vote....

I have probably changed my voting intentions in the last month. I'm disillusioned with both main parties and was looking at policies to decide who to vote for. Then I remembered that the FPTP system effectively renders policies irrelevant. I can't vote nationally, I can't vote based on policies. All I can vote for is who I think will be most effective locally.

I made the mistake of voting based on national policies in 2010 and got lumbered with LeFroy. Never again.

Fair do's to you on your stance and your point about whether to decide on national politics or locally shows up the fault line in the current system.
We elect a local representative for our constituency and thinking about it we should pick the most capable and hard working of the candidates, but we are being asked to decide which party we want to run the government so we end up voting for the party not the person.

Plus if the party tells the local to vote against his own promises they usually do so, the whip system means its all bullshit.

Sorry, not just the whip system. Many aspects of government are a clear means to keep us out of any control, its all bullshit. Pretty much without exception.

That's all true, but I also think that if more people voted based on local candidate competence, you'd get a lot less safe seats, parachute candidates and 'I don't like his face' voting.

Parachute candidates are my main gripe as they are one of the main reasons behind the disconnection with politicians and the people they are supposed to represent.
Most candidates usually worked their way up within the local party and normally spent a good few years as a councillor. Tories were normally local businessmen or professionals and Labours' had worked either in the health service or on the factory floor and had served as union representatives, Having a strong connection with the place they represent and lived the life of their constituents should be a requirement for MPs.

I'm still trying to (like many, I'm sure) understand the voting process.

I almost (like many, I'm sure) don't have the will power, to find out what to do for the best.

Actually (like many, I'm sure), I may just vote on how someone looks.

In fact, you know what (like many, I'm sure) I may not vote at all!
