Tactical voting here we go.
Jeremy is off on a retirement course after Christmas
I'd advise everyone else to do the same
One of the advantages of being a student.
Back in my old socialist-voting days, I had the choice of voting in my university seat - Newcastle central, probably the safest Labour seat in the country - or my "home" seat - the more marginal Conservative seat of Barry. Obviously I voted at the latter.
Actually, thinking on (several days later), I'd have been in digs in Whitley Bay for the February '74 election - a safeish Tory seat - and Newcastle Central for the October '74 election, though for my name to be on electoral register in October - under 3 weeks into term - they'd have had to have moved pretty quickly.
It'll be interesting to see what happens here given they've parachuted someone in who isn't remotely local. At least Lefroy was somewhat local for a while.
A lot of folk won't appreciate that too much. Might even see a big vote split between CON and BXP (one can hope)
I'm in Stone constituency, so I've got Bill Cash (who is currently trending on Twitter) to contend with. I have to vote Labour. I doubt the BXP will put a candidate in.
Do Labour and the Libdems even have candidates in the constituency? If so, they might want to think about boosting their profile a little bit.
I believe that the Labour Candidate for Stafford is Joyce Still who resides in Hampshire.
I had something through the door from her last week.
I think that the Lib Deb candidate is Alex Wagner, I believe he’s from Manchester/Stockport way. He wasn’t old enough to vote in the referendum , so he’s quite young.
Ah, I'd forgotten about her but then a total absence of promotion will do that. Makes you wonder why they bother standing.
Up here in Formby, we've had stuff through the letterbox from all the candidates, so we know who they all are, even though we can't vote here...
Sounds like it may be game on, but with the GE on the 9th rather than the 12th.
Maybe they'll drag MPs in again over the weekend to vote Northern Ireland some money.
ETA There's also an amendment to set the GE date to May 7th, 2020 (good luck with that).
I've lost track of how much money they're supposed to have had, but each billion quid is £531 for every man, woman and child up there.
Has anybody seen any effect of this?
Jess Phillips has just tweeted that if the election is held on December 12th, then the result will be announced on ..... Friday 13th.
(I've already ordered my hockey mask.)
Getting the gas masks & steel helmets out of the loft.
She's been out for an Indian in town tonight.
Actually, it was a Bangladeshi, before I get accused of peddling fake news.
Well, it's 11pm on October 31st, 2019.
Are we still here?
Are there any reports of blocked ditches?
It's looking like it could be a wet night, I do hope there are no drainage issues.
I've got a pick and a shovel, if that helps.
For those of us not currently in the UK could you update us on the situation please
