next week's radio times is doing a feature on lewis he's got his pic on the front cover with leader asking the secrets of his success, i think this has obvious answers and is certainly not some heroic piece of journalism i can give you these secrets in advance;
1, he drives very fast
2, he drives faster than the other drivers
3,in real life he's not an amber gambler
4,

It's not about driving faster - it's about getting over the finish line in front of the others. And, don't they go straight from red to green?

If you drive, on average, faster than the others, does that not mean you get over the finish line first?

EDIT: I suppose you could start before the winner, but gain on him.

What I really meant there was that you might drive faster than the others but this might actually result in you not finishing, which is the crux of the matter, due to pranging the thing or knackering the engine, for example.

being an amber gambler in real life is a big risk one that i learned as six year old drving the S91 a long time ago. I had to be careful not to plough it into the odeon or endanger my precious cargo of flat capped factory work-shys, toothless old folk, pandas, and toxic golf (achtung! achtung!) balls.....

... of course, you do have a bit more scope for amber gambling in this country. Most others seem to go straight from red to green, without the interesting red/amber phase so beloved here.

Not if your car explodes in a shower of cogs, or you stuff up a corner and wind up wearing the armco as a hat.

My point exactly, but much more succinctly put. Why are you not on the commentary team?

Then you're not faster on average are you, you're faster for some of the race and at a standstill for the rest (unless air ambulance travelling times count).

I was otherwise engaged (sleeping) at 11pm last night.

Probably because all I do is recycle Clarkson quotes.

Then you are clearly fully qualified. Send in your CV now and put me down as a referee.

Formula One doesn't interest me much these days - but helicopter racing I would watch and this chap seems to have a natural flair for it.
