Meadow Road Park -dogs banned

Over the last few days signs have gone up to say dogs are now banned from the park. I understand that many local councils don't use dog exclusion zones as they are highly controversial. I'm pretty cheesed off about this as I've been walking my dogs here for nearly 10 years, and us dog walkers have gone from being the only ones who use it to the only ones who are not welcome.

Bizarrely the council website also says that bye laws for this park include no ball games and no cycling in spite of the fact it has a basketball court and a bmx track.

As with so many things, when there is a problem with a minority, it is easier to penalise the majority, rather than target the actual problem.

I live across the road from the park and i have walked my dog on there for five years, now i am banned what a load of bollocks, all we are going to get now with the amount of crap they have built on there is a ton of delinquents that don't even live in the area.

It seems like a classic case of adopting a blanket ban rather than tackling the problem which I'm guessing is probably dog fouling. This (along with my other pet hate, littering) seems to be getting worse and worse as a selfish minority who refuse to clean up after their defecating pet ruin areas for every one else, including the majority of responsible dog walkers. Its a shame all round that it has to come to this.

There should be dedicated dog walking areas rather than people having to use parks, there is nothing worse then (and potentially dangerous as well) a child treading in dog muck while playing in the park.

I agree i am a responsible dog owner and all the dog owners i bump into over there are, in fact a big majority are elderly what are they supposed to do now.

I don't own a dog (I'm more a cat person) but I think your idea that there should be "special" areas for dog walkers is unfair. Dog walkers should be able to mix and use open spaces just like anyone else, but with the proviso that they clean up after their pets. Unfortunately there are some who simply don't do this and thus ruin it for everyone.

I'm sure there are responsible dog walkers who don't like treading in other people's dog muck too.

Have proper enforcement for the guilty rather than penalising everyone.
