Food's really good, but the service left a bit to be desired. We weren't given menus, then they came back ten minutes later to ask for our order, then they never came to see if we wanted puddings, and we had to go and ask for our change. Hopefully it's all teething problems though.

As there are rather a lot of us going they asked us to pre-order, so hopefully we won't suffer the service probs. Am really looking forward to the food though! Gonna take some pics and post them on here tomorrow...unless we get carried away on the Tequila afterwards, in which case it may be some time..dirtybobby said:thanks for the first report, lucyLucy said:

Well. What can I say. I guess the best word to describe our meal here is 'disappointing'.
Others had mentioned the poor service, and considering we'd given our order to them 24 hours beforehand we assumed that there would be no issues. There were 14 of us, and all but one person had told them exactly what we wanted to eat so that they could prepare and bring all the food out at the same time.
We were booked in for 8pm and when we walked in we were asked whether we wanted to have a drink at the bar first or go straight to the table. We decided to have a drink and then go to the table, so were seated at about 8:15. After about 40 minutes of not being asked whether we would like any drinks (we'd obviously been going to the bar ourselves instead), not being offered any complimentary nachos or anything as you'd usually expect and no sign of any food, I decided to ask the waitress if it was on its way. We weren't expecting the food to be served as soon as we sat down, but with not even a hint of interest from the waitresses in that time we were wondering what was happening. The waitress said that the food was on its way soon, which would have been ok. Eventually, after a full hour, the meals started coming out.
About 5 people had chosen the Steak Fajitas which came out first. When I saw one of them I was immediately pleased that I hadn't ordered the same. The sizzling platter consisted of what looked like a whole onion, a few peppers, and about 5 small strips of beef. Instead of several big round flour tortillas as would be expected, there was a basket with bits of tortilla which had been cut to the size of a piece of bread. The pots of guacamole, sour cream, cheese and salsa were smaller than an egg cup. Not looking good.
The other meals then came out, and most of them looked much more promising. I had Chilli Enchiladas, and though it looked nothing like any enchiladas i've ever had, it was substantial and was tasty. After 10 minutes all the food was out and we were all tucking in. One of my mates, who could eat several horses was he so inclined, asked the waitress if there was any chance he could get some more steak for his fajitas. She said she'd sort something out, so he happily continued to eat what he had. The waitress still didn't ask if everyone's food was ok or if we wanted any drinks. When we booked we had been offered a couple of bottles of complimentary house wine, which we had to prompt them for when one of us remembered.
By the time most of us had finished the extra steak had still not appeared, so we asked the waitress. She came back from the kitchen with a large plate of steak for my mate, which had more meat on it than everyone else's in total! A few of us were getting really p*ssed off as it was just one thing on top of another. We had considered walking out just before the food arrived, but thought we'd give it another few minutes.
I have no problem whatsoever in telling places if i've had bad service/food, and am equally happy to tell them when i've had a good meal. I decided to complain to the manager, and after a while he came out to see me. I was very discreet, and told him what a shame things went so badly as it was a birthday meal that we'd all been looking forward to. He agreed and apologised, saying that they were a chef down which caused the problem. It certainly hadn't caused the service problem as the place wasn't even that busy. I said that we weren't happy to pay the full bill, and he said that he would offer us something in compensation. I asked him to make me a deal (I know this makes me sound like a whingeing chancer, but I just don't think you should pay for something you don't get), so he said I should make him a deal. I did, and he gave me a large amount off our £150 food bill. He also gave us 2 free shots of tequila each, which went down very well with us even if it was a way of making sure we left drunk and happier.
I will go here again, as I can appreciate that new places do have their teething problems but will hopefully improve. I told the guy about the forum as there had been discussion about his restaurant and he may want to get involved, which hopefully he will.

When i've had them before, both in restaurants and shop-bought, they're basically like Mexican-style canneloni, with chilli wrapped in flour tortillas then covered in melted cheese. Stick 'enchiladas' into google images...pretty much exactly like most of the pics that come up. Even their description says "Stuffed baked flour tortilla covered in enchilada sauce and melted cheese". What I got was a burrito, but having waited so long for it to arrive there was no way I was going to send it back! Like I said, it was really nice, but it wasn't what I asked for.dirtybobby said:

I've always had them filled with beef chilli, but they do give the option of roasted veg or Cajun chicken instead.tek-monkey said:

Had this discussion with the missus a few weeks ago, she's always had beef too but I'd only ever had chicken. Thought thats just what they were, even the old el paso kits say chicken on them.
Made some beef ones though, and damn tasty they were too!

Shame that happened Andreas, this thread could turn into another Castle Tavern thread all over again
Thing is, as long as they learn from these mistakes then I may try it.
They could do a lot worse than have a read of this thread and take the advice on board.
For example marketing and opening offers, where were they? If I didn't drive past the place now and then I wouldn't even know it was there.
